A lot of people globally are searching for remote jobs and a handful of them actually land one. Since the onset of the pandemic when the remote job culture has come to the surface, people from different professions seek remote jobs for the benefits they provide like better work life balance, cut down on expenses, more time for family, better health etc. The rationale of a person looking for a remote job is perfectly fine. Where they go wrong is in their approach. In this article we will discuss why it is hard to find remote jobs.

There can be a lot of reasons why searching for a suitable remote job is difficult, but is it actually difficult?

There are a number of platforms online where people can search for remote jobs and for different positions. Maybe they are not aware of the platform, or perhaps they do not want to make efforts to search for one. It is actually not difficult to find a remote job. Getting one is!

Since the remote job culture is pretty different from the traditional office jobs, it poses a challenge to the job seekers. While making efforts to land for a remote job, people are not only competing with the local crowd, but they need to compete with the job seekers for that position in that particular company, globally.

Thousands of people may apply for the position, which will ultimately be given to perhaps 9 or 10. When they look at the number of positions available, people start getting demotivated and already try to convince themselves that they ain’t getting this job. Hence, they stop putting further efforts to grab this opportunity. On the other hand, there is a different set of people who prefer to be creative in their approach in order to stand out of the crowd and shine in the eyes of the HR. These are the ones who actually end up landing that job.

A lot of people run away from making efforts and want to get the result as early as possible. And nature favours those who put in dedicated efforts.

As a typical job seeker, people drop in applications in a lot of companies. And when it comes to the number of positions available, they lose hope and stop making efforts to be creative in their approach. Instead they start browsing for more jobs. And when the list gets exhausted, the question comes up: why is it hard to find remote jobs?

CONCLUSION

The next time you apply for a remote job, try to do something different from the rest so that you get noticed and increase your chances of getting hired. For example, a graphic designer can create a new company logo and present it in his cover letter. Not many applicants will make such efforts and hence you have already gained a competitive edge. Try to make subtle changes in your approach and you will see the difference.

For professions like software engineering, graphic designing, digital marketing, etc. getting a remote job is not as difficult as it is felt. Top multinational companies hire such professionals from around the globe to get the best talent, which in turn opens doors for a lot of professionals. Particularly for software engineers and developers there are a lot of boot camps which train them and help get remote jobs abroad. Pesto Tech is one such boot camp which trains and provides placement assistance to developers to help them get jobs worth 2X their CTC.
