The Family Man Season 2, one of the best spy thriller series out there, is all the rage even though it came out a while ago. It even won big at the recently concluded Filmfare OTT Awards. However, if you’re still unsure about whether you should watch the series, here’s what the reviewers think about this spy web series:

The Times of India:

The first season of The Family Man was a huge hit thanks to the fun element it brought into the otherwise thrilling and patriotic spy genre. The second season lives up to the expectations too. Of course the Raj & DK brand of humor is written across the show and you’ll find it in scenes that you least expect to. The first couple of episodes go into laying the foundation, and just like the first season, the story picks up pace gradually unwinding sub-plots and new characters. But, staying true to its name, The Family Man also tries to balance the show with the personal side of Srikant’s life. To some extent, it succeeds, but that aspect feels like just another part of the story that will be weaved into the dominant spy-thrill-adventure part. No harm in that because ultimately the show is about a spy. But merely skimming the surface of the family equation doesn’t really help in the long run.

That said, Raj & DK, along with Suparn Varma, have managed to create a gripping sequel, one that’s fast-paced and humorous. The credit of keeping the viewers hooked to the screen majorly goes to Manoj Bajpayee, who is perfect as Srikant. When he’s on the screen, which is very often, you can’t take your eyes off it. Equally good is Sharib Hashmi, the trusted friend and colleague. In fact, one of the high points of the season is JK and Srikant’s bromance, which very well deserves a spin-off. JK is the perfect Dr Watson to Srikant’s Sherlock Holmes. Samantha Akkineni as Raji is sincere, doing total justice to her role, but her full potential is only seen in a couple of scenes. Other than that, as the focused rebel, she maintains almost the same expression throughout. Priya Mani stands out in the limited time that she has onscreen, as does Seema Biswas.

Hindustan Times:

Raji is a fascinating character, played with great confidence by cast-against-type Samantha. Granted, she’s been slapped with a thick layer of brown face, but the actor relies on the physicality of Raji than more traditional tools, such as words and facial expressions. Notice the change in her body language as she transforms from a demure young woman into a lethal killer, in the span of virtually a couple of minutes.

As dependably formidable as Bajpayee is — and he is very formidable, exercising nearly every acting bone in his body — Samantha more than holds her own as the show’s primary antagonist. And what makes her journey so compelling is the very thing that makes The Family Man so compelling as a whole — the characters in this show aren’t motivated by requirements of the plot, but personal goals instead. In that regard, Raji is a textbook ‘villain’. Brainwashed as she might be, she is driven mainly by a desire to right the wrongs of her past -- it's a misplaced sense of righteousness, but as they say, the best villains are heroes in their own mind.

The Hindu:

A follow-up to a worthwhile series is usually tricky and weighed down by expectations. Nevertheless, Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK hold on to their nerves and deliver yet again. Season two is also lengthy, takes its own time to set the stage for a high on-adrenaline clash replete with well constructed action sequences, and ultimately triumph.

As Srikant Tiwari, Manoj Bajpayee is all earnestness and stoic, holding our attention even during the sluggish portions. Meanwhile, rising slowly as a fiery nemesis and making us take a new look at her is Samantha Akkineni.

So, are you now convinced whether you should watch this critically acclaimed spy web series? We think you should go for it! This will definitely make it to your list of best spy thriller series .
