The world has completely moved to the cloud, gone are days when people would store data on their hard drives or local systems. Various tech companies are building applications or platforms that provide cloud as a service to run various apps or work as cloud storage. Storing data on the cloud is nothing but hosting data on secure remote servers that can be accessed through the web or online.

It’s more of a virtual platform based on a physical system or a network of servers. Data on the cloud can be accessed from anywhere if the system has an internet connection. It gives users the leverage to keep their local system clean without adding a lot of clutter on their hard drives.

Online free storage or on-demand storage has gained significant traction as users can store a part of their data on the cloud and access it from the web. Most of the service providers do provide free 10 GB Space for users as a try-out and then go for paid plans.

Various cloud configurations can be listed as –? PRIVATE? PUBLIC? HYBRID? MOBILE CLOUD STORAGE

PRIVATE CLOUD

As the name suggests, a private cloud or services pertaining to a private cloud are only given to select users instead of the general audience. A private cloud is mostly built for organizations for internal data or information movement. A private cloud offers superior scalability and elasticity.

A private cloud can be classified into two types viz. On-premise and Off-premise.

An On-premise cloud system is used to hold data on systems that are housed in the organization itself, whereas an Off-premise ecosystem holds data on a system of third-party servers in a public cloud system.

The basic difference between an On-premise and Off-premise system would be the choice of data supervision, security, and cost. The cost to manage an On-site public cloud would be more as a team would be required to do so, wherein an Off-site private cloud makes costing much lesser than its counterpart.

PUBLIC CLOUD

The name is self-explanatory as data on a public cloud can be accessed by any user. The data is externalized, and thus easier to access and maintain in comparison to private clouds.

HYBRID CLOUD

The cloud is simple, and it makes understanding terms simple as well. A hybrid cloud packs in features from both, the public and the private cloud.

Sensitive data can be placed on the Private Cloud whilst non-sensitive data can be placed on the public cloud, making it easier to compartmentalize data, rather than stuffing it onto a single system.

MOBILE CLOUD

A mobile cloud is a platform wherein data can be accessed from mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. These cloud services are mainly used for the purpose of storing and sharing personal files, photos, videos, etc.
