Distractions That You Must Avoid
Right Spot For Preparation: The study spot by itself can be of greater distraction for many ASVAB aspirants. Let us understand that there are two different types of people in this category. One is the type of people who can learn in a silent environment, the other is the one who cannot. Though there are many sub versions or categories in this, the main umbrella is bifurcated. So, decide what type of learner you are.
If you are a silent learner, you cannot go on for a group study. Further, you cannot learn when there are relatives at home. At the same time, the other category aspirants shall require a place that is not completely silent. They may confront concentration problems. In such cases, you may leave the door of the room open and get to see people walking around the house. You may not have difficulty switching on to mild music as well.
Physical Distractions – Hunger | Tiredness: Physical troubles like these may cause distractions. But, one must realize that body and mind are predominant. Everything else is secondary. Have good food, take a good amount of rest. Allow your body to relax. Exhausting your energy by not eating and not with enough rest may complicate your health. Some students shall study even by munching some wafers. You may not restrict yourself to it. At the same time, everything has a limit though. Do what works!!!
Phone on DND: As an ambitious ASVAB aspirant, you must realize when a phone is helpful and when it is not. It is advised to create a timetable for preparation and stick to the same. As you begin your preparation, keep your phone DND. It is fine if you miss a couple of calls. If people must reach out to you, will reach out to you anyway after some time. Also, it would be beneficial that you let know your friends and relatives about your plan to study and they would not disturb you unnecessarily by calling or texting. Also, if you had kept the phone on DND and if people get a busy tone on the phone or an IVR saying the call cannot be connected, it will be well understood by the caller.
Taking a Break – Too Many Times: Although it is advised not to study for more than 1 hour and take a 5-minute break. Such breaks need not distract you. The time that you need to relax must be allowed for that and you are ready for the next session of study. Many students shall have trouble bringing back the focus. If that is the case, set a deadline as completing a chapter and then a break.
Providing yourself with the environment to study is the key to success. You may prefer learning lying on the bed, or sitting at the desk. It is completely up to you. But what amount of lessons have you learned for the day shall determine your success during the test.
