Accent tables are a wonderful way to add beauty to bare corners in a room. It also becomes easier to declutter other tables if you use them. This type of table comes in different shapes, styles and sizes. If you want to choose a unique color, there are also hundreds to choose from.

An accent table is often overlooked when it comes to the design process because homeowners become more concerned about their purchase of major furniture such as the couch, bed or the dining tables and chairs.

An accent table can be multi-functional. It can be used as a display table, end table or a nightstand. If you are shopping for an accent table, know that there are certain key details to keep in mind.

There are moments when you can buy a table set that already comes with a matching accent or coffee table. There are also Accent tables that come with drawers and shelves where you can store extra stuff.

Consider the Style

Are you a traditional designer or are you more modern? Keep in mind the style of all the other furniture that you have in your home, more so the ones that need to be paired with the accent table.

The accent table often adds excitement to a room. It can draw the eye in where the couch or the painting failed to catch the attention of the beholder. This table can be painted, treated, inlaid or stained.

If you are trying to achieve the rustic look, then find a wooden table that is fitting for a log cabin. Those who are going for the Asian look must look for an accent table painted red or red with gold trimming. The more elegant the curves and carvings, the more apt the table is for a formal setting.

Consider the Size

As you already know, an accent table comes in different sizes. Find a small one for more compact spaces and you have the leeway to buy the bigger ones for a more spacious setting.

Know also the purpose for your accent table. Will it be used to hold an ornamental plant or will it act as an end table. Take the time to measure the area so that you would be able to buy the right size of accent table.

Consider the Color

There are different colors to choose from if you do not want to get stuck with the wooden accent table. For the minimalists out there, then a table with a simple finish would do. There are many wood types for the likes of you – there’s walnut, maple, cherry, pine and mahogany.

Ask table designers for more sophisticated colors. Depending on the theme that you have chosen, pick a color that blends well with the rest of the room. If you are not able to find a table that suits you, then just buy a plain, wooden one and set a family weekend painting project. This special DIY project will be a fun and memorable activity for you and your family.

Consider the Type

A nightstand in your bedroom can be used as an accent table or an end table depending on your needs. It can hold the alarm clock, phone, a lampshade, photos, books and plants. You can also showcase your personal collection or any meaningful object.

Find a sturdy accent table before you place any heavy object on it. Do not rush and put that expensive vase on the table only to end up crying because it was not able to support the weight of the pricey object.

You see, accent tables are not unimportant pieces anymore. These can make or break the look of your home so better make a correct choice from the onset.
