You cannot reverse or stop aging, which is inevitable but you can always work towards leading a healthy and great life as you age. Aging gracefully is not about trying to look and work like a 20 something – it’s about accepting your physical and mental changes and leading a healthy and happy life. You can get better with age like a bottle of wine with the right care and concern.

Today, I am going to give an overview of how to age gracefully with good health and lots of happiness

Exercise

Regular exercise can lower the risk of concerning diseases like heart diseases, diabetes, cancer etc. It helps to retain your mobility longer. Exercise can also lower stress- levels and help in improving your sleep, bone health, mood etc. Consult your doctor before starting any exercise plan to rule out any health-related risks associated with that particular plan. Aging can also increase body and muscle pains. Elder Care Services in Kolkata provide physiotherapy services in the comfort of your home. The physiotherapist will help you learn certain exercises to rejuvenate and relax your mind and body.

Diet

It is often said that "You are what you eat". Diet matters a lot for healthy living and aging as well. A perfectly balanced meal containing Protein, Carbohydrates, Vitamins and important minerals is the key to aging gracefully. Include fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, cereals, brown bread, eggs, lean proteins like chicken, turkey, milk, yogurt etc. in your diet. Avoid processed foods, refined sugar and saturated fats as much as possible. Also, check your daily salt intake. Too much salt intake can spike your blood pressure level. Stay hydrated as much as possible. Drink 7-8 glasses of water daily. You can consult a dietician to get perfect guidance regarding your daily diet.

Mental Health

Mental Health is very important. It is one of the important keys to healthy aging. You need to have an active social life to remain healthy and happy. Spend time with your families and friends as much as possible. Make sure to go out with them to a movie or lunch date, shopping etc. whenever you get spare time to relax and de-stress yourself. If your children are settled abroad or in a different city make sure you talk with them daily. Take up hobbies that you have a passion for like gardening, baking, painting etc. If you like reading then choose your favorite corner and enjoy your reading sessions with a brimming cup of hot coffee or tea. Practice meditation daily at least for 15-20 minutes to calm and rejuvenate your soul and body. You can also do some volunteering activities for NGOs or other groups that interest you. If you live in a senior living home then be an active participant in religious discussions, book club meetings, and cultural activities to feel happy and relaxed.

Doctor Appointments

Don’t miss doctor appointments. Keep in constant touch with your family physician, dentist, ophthalmologist, physiotherapists etc. to rule out the risk of any serious health issues. Don’t miss out on daily medications. Go for a full-body check-up once or twice a year to ensure that you are fit and healthy.

Quit smoking and if you drink then limit your alcohol intake to reduce the risk of dreadful diseases like Liver and lung cancer, COPD etc. Get a good night’s sleep to rejuvenate yourself daily and last but not least keep smiling and love your precious life.

These are some of the steps that you can incorporate in your life to age gracefully with health and happiness.
