Step-By-Step Guide to Recharge FASTag Online and Offline

Posted: Mar 07, 2022
The Indian government had made FASTag mandatory on National Highways from 2021 onwards, and for good reasons. Zooming through the toll plazas without stopping to pay the toll? Or having to carry bundles of cash? Yes, please! So, if you just got your FASTag and wondering how a FASTag recharge is done, you're in the right place.
Keeping sufficient funds in your tag is essential to cross the toll collection plazas and points without any hassles. Otherwise, you may end up roadblocking the toll line while trying to top up the FASTag last minute.
Now, you may or may not need to recharge your FASTag, depending on the kind of tag you possess.
- Tag linked to a prepaid account: If your FASTag is linked to a prepaid account like a UPI-enabled wallet or credit/debit card, you will need to top up/recharge the tag based on the available balance.
- Tag linked to a savings account: If your FASTag is linked to a savings account, the recharge will happen automatically. You just need to set a threshold beforehand. The money will be added to the tag when the balance goes below it.
So you see, recharging a FASTag is just as simple as buying one. Look at how each recharge process works, and pick the one you prefer.
How to Recharge FASTag Online?
You can use two different methods to recharge your FASTag online. Choose the one you find most convenient.
1. Through UPI applications
You can recharge your bank issued FASTag using UPI applications like BHIM, Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe, etc. Just follow the steps given below.
Step 1: Open the BHIM UPI-enabled payment application.
Step 2: Click on 'Send' and input your FASTag ID.
Step 3: Then, add the amount you'd like to add to the tag and enter your UPI pin.
Step 4: Once the FASTag recharge is complete, you will get two SMS alerts about the credited amount.
2. Through the bank's FASTag portal
Alternatively, you can use your bank's online portal for FASTag for a quick recharge. Here's how.
Step 1: Go to the online portal of your respective bank's FASTag facility.
Step 2: Log into your FASTag account and access the 'Recharge' section.
Step 3: Now, enter the recharge amount for your FASTag account. You can pay the amount using a credit card, debit card, National Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT), or Real-Time Gross Settlements (RTGs).
Step 5: Finally, click on 'Yes' to complete the recharge.
Most banks also levy a convenience fee on any FASTag recharge done online. So it's best to check all the associated charges beforehand. But unfortunately, there are no provisions for doing a FASTag recharge offline.
Conclusion
Simple, right? Not only can you apply for FASTag online, but also recharge the tag online, as and when needed. With a FASTag, you don't need to worry about cash handling and unnecessary stoppages on road journeys.
FASTag is fast, convenient, and completely cashless to make toll payments. So get one today!
