Lithium batteries are the most common type of batteries that are used in many devices than ever before. It depends on the lithium ions to store the energy by creating an electric potential difference between the two poles of the battery. A separator is an insulating layer is used in this type of battery, which helps in separating the two sides of the battery. It also blocks the flow of electrons and allows lithium ions to pass through the battery.
Types Of Lithium Battery:
All the electronics nowadays are using lithium batteries. Although, it doesn’t use the same type of lithium battery. It can be varied by active materials and chemical reactions to store energy. The following are some types of lithium batteries.
Lithium Iron Phosphate Type:
These batteries use phosphate as a cathode material and graphite carbon electrode as an anode. Lithium cobalt oxide batteries have high energy but low power. So, these batteries don’t perform well with high-load applications. This battery delivers power over a long period. These types of batteries are used in mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and cameras. Lithium cobalt oxide batteries have lower thermal stability.
Lithium Manganese Oxide:
Lithium manganese oxide batteries use lithium manganese oxide as the cathode material. It creates a three-dimensional structure that improves the ion flow, lowers internal resistance, and increases current handling, which improves safety and thermal stability. These batteries are used in portable power tools and in some medical instruments. Lithium manganese oxide batteries can charge quickly and offers high specific power and more flexibility. This type of battery is able to handle high load applications and operates safely at higher temperatures.
Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide:
Lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide batteries have three elements used in the cathode. The three elements are nickel, manganese, and cobalt. These batteries provide high energy density and a longer lifecycle at low costs. Also, this battery has high thermal stability than the lithium cobalt oxide type.
Lithium Nickel Cobalt Aluminum Oxide:
This battery offers high specific energy with great power and a longer lifecycle. So, it can deliver a high amount of current for a longer time period. These batteries become more popular in the electric vehicle industry, because of their ability to perform well in high load applications with longer battery life.
Lithium Titanate:
Lithium titanate batteries are safer among the other types. These batteries can charge faster than any type and provides a longer lifespan. Lithium titanate material is used as an anode. These batteries are used in electric vehicle charging stations, uninterrupted power supplies, telecommunication systems, aerospace, and military types of equipment. These batteries can operate at any temperature and have excellent safety because of their stability.
