Art is a language of itself and has influenced mankind in every era. Early man used cave paintings as a way of communication which later then transformed into a powerful expression of thoughts.

As the saying goes, A picture is worth a thousand words, you can convey a message deep into a person’s heart with a single piece of art.

While art has taken many forms, Surrealistic art is one of the revolutionary types that changed people’s perception.

Its evolution is very important in the history of art since the modern world has incorporated technology into the world of surrealistic art.

How Surrealistic Art Has Evolved Lately?

Surrealistic art is a form of art made by the unconscious mind. You cannot find any logic in its outlook but usually has a strong meaning behind it.

Surrealistic art was found by Andre Breton in 1924 Paris. It aimed to free human thoughts, language, and the human experience from the shackles of rationalism.

Which started as an artistic and literary movement, later then evolved into theatre, cinema, and much more.

Now surrealism has taken a new venture with the advent of artificial intelligence and neural networks which is commonly called to be Neural Surrealism.

Surrealistic art doesn’t have to involve the human unconscious mind. Rather the neural networks can create stunning images with a speck of noise data input.

Neural surrealism is trending and many artists are amazed by the potential of these AI machines. The astonishing imagery it has created has made the human mind awe-struck.

Even though neural surrealism has nothing to do with the movement, it has derived all the techniques from it.

Instead of depending on an unconscious human mind, machines are put to test with irrelevant data and what comes up with them is one kind of surrealism.

Many machine learning algorithms and techniques are used to make these machines intelligent like humans.

What’s Next With Neural Surrealistic Art?

Machines are now trained to learn a particular surrealistic style and transfer the contents of an image to create a new piece of art. This is called the Neural Style Transfer algorithm.

This type of transfer is possible with the Deep Convolutional Neural Networks which are trained to recognize the patterns, strokes, and various other aspects of an artwork.

There are several convolutional layers in which the machine recognizes any one aspect in one of its layers and compiles it into a particular style.

Now you can combine a surreal artist's image and a real-world image with this CNN and get a whole new surrealistic artwork.

This is further developed by Google into a new technology called Deep Dream which is the latest trend in neural surrealistic art.

Conclusion

Surrealism was a revolutionary movement that started to liberate the human mind from rationalistic thoughts. It further developed into various artworks and currently, Artificial intelligence has taken over the surrealistic art world. We have to wait and watch what more these machines can do and will they start to dream at one point in the future?
