NSW Engineering Registration Eligibility Requirements For Mechanical Engineers

The Australian engineering field is ready to welcome talented engineers from all over the world. The reason is the high demand for engineers in the country. One of its provinces called NSW (New South Wales) has its own engineering eligibility requirements for the NSW Engineering Registration.

Here, in this blog, we will acquaint you with the mechanical engineering eligibility requirements for this registration. So, if you are a mechanical engineering professional with a burning desire to migrate to NSW as a professional engineer, then read this blog to know about the eligibility requirements.

The work of mechanical engineering is to carry out in relation to machines, devices, processes, structures and systems which involve mechanical elements.

Mechanical engineering eligibility requirements for NSW Engineering Registration:

To become eligible for this class of registration, you need to prove the following requirements:

  • Satisfy the knowledge, qualification, skills and experience needs
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • A capable mechanical engineer to do the work
  • Fulfill insurance needs
  • Has a current National Police Certificate that must be valid for 4 months when submitting the application (Name and Date of Birth check only).

Knowledge, skills, experience and qualification requirements:

There are 3 pathways that will become available for a Professional Engineer for NSW Engineering Registration in this class. Currently, only Pathway 1 is available because no professional engineering authorities have been recognized by the Secretary or have Professional Standards Scheme in operation. There are expectations that other pathways will become available in the future.

Pathway 1

You need to apply to NSW Fair Trading giving proof of necessary knowledge, qualifications, skills and experience given below.

Qualifications:

You need to have completed one of the given qualifications.

A four-year full-time or equivalent part-time undergraduate bachelor’s degree which is recognized by an authority that is a signatory to the Washington Accord in:

Mechanical Engineering, or

Engineering (with a major in mechanical engineering) or

A post-graduate master’s degree that is recognized by a body that is a signatory to the Washing Accord in:

Mechanical Engineering; or

Engineering (with a major in mechanical engineering) or

A qualification that is conferred by an Australian or tertiary institution that has been evaluated as being equivalent to the above bachelor’s or master’s degrees by an Australian signatory to the Washington Accord; or

A qualification that is given by a foreign university or tertiary institution that has been evaluated as equivalent by an evaluating authority for the skilled occupation of mechanical engineers.

Knowledge:

You need to know and understand the following, related to the mechanical engineering area.

Engineering principles for natural and physical science and sustainable engineering

Numerical analysis, Mathematics, statistics and computer and information sciences

Expert knowledge:

Engineering construction and design, and the physical, natural and environmental factors which may affect the construction and design.

Skills:

You need to do the following, related to the mechanical engineering area:

Use established engineering approaches to engineering issues.

Apply engineering tools, resources and techniques.

Use systematic engineering synthesis and design processes.

Use systematic ways to manage engineering projects.

Experience for all 3 pathways:

You need to have 5-year practical experience that is:

Relevant: being experience related to this registration class involving a class 2, 3, 9a or 9c building.

Recent: Being a minimum of 5 years, or equivalent part-time, experience within a period of the last 10 years, including a minimum of the 2-year Australian experience.

Pathway 2:

Keep in mind: This pathway is unavailable.

You need to apply for NSW Fair Trading giving proof of registration or recognition as a professional engineer in a mechanical engineering area by a professional authority of engineers approved by NSW Fair Trading. No extra knowledge or skills are necessary other than those necessary for registration and recognition by the professional body of engineers.

Pathway 3:

Keep in mind: This pathway is unavailable.

You need to apply to NSW Fair Trading giving proof of recognition or registration as a professional engineer in a mechanical engineering area by a professional authority of engineers operating with a Professional Standards Scheme approved by the Professional Standards Council.

No extra knowledge or skills are necessary other than those necessary to be recognized or registered by the professional authority of engineering as per the Professional Standards Scheme.
