Now that you have a Beeswax Food Wrap like the Urban Creative Madhu Wrap beeswax food wrap, let's learn how to care for it. As beeswax wrap is a natural and compostable alternative to aluminum foil, tissues, plastic wrap, etc., it requires a little more attention. This post will tell you everything you need to know about the wash and care process of a reusable food wrap and how you can revitalize it.

Cleaning your organic reusable food wraps

Step 1: After you are done using your wrap for the day, you can gently run it under cold water to get rid of the food crumbs. If there are stains (turmeric, beet, etc.), you can wash them with a gentle and preferably eco-friendly dish soap. Not too harshly though: a gentle brush can be used for crusted food particles.

Why rinse with cold water?

Cold water is the best option, because at 60°C, beeswax starts to melt. This will render your wrap useless. Allow your food to cool down before placing them in your beeswax wrap.

Step 2: For stubborn stains, you can soak your beeswax food wrap in a diluted soap solution for 15-20 mins before giving it a rinse.

Step 3: Once washed, air-dry the wraps. There’s no need to wring the wraps as that can crease it further.

Step 4: Storing reusable food wraps is easy. You can fold them and put them in drawers or keep them on your countertop for easy access. Any cool and dry place will do just fine.

Always remember to store the Beeswax wraps away from heat.

How to revive organic reusable food wraps

Most beeswax food wraps will last anywhere between 8 to 10 months. However, with continuous use, they can start to lose their wax. Usually, at the 5th-month mark, they will need a little revival.

Here are two of the most popular methods.

  1. Re-wax

  • Grate some food-safe beeswax on your reusable food wrap.

  • Sandwich the beeswax wrap between two sheets of baking paper.

  • Take your iron and set it on low. Gently press down on your baking paper covered wrap.

  • Keep moving the iron, so that you don’t burn the wax.

  • Lift the baking paper after 2-3 mins.

  • Let the wrap cool.

That is it. You have successfully made your Madhu Wrap look new in a couple of minutes.

Urban Creative’s organic reusable food wraps are a great way to cut down on plastic use. The best part about them is that after using them, you can pop them in the composting bin. It is that easy! These are a great addition to a zero-waste kitchen - one step forward in your no-waste journey.
