Marine plywood is counted among the highest-rated plywood. It is good quality hardwood plywood which is made using waterproof glue. Waterproof glue is used to stick the sheets of wood veneer, known as plies, so that the glue won’t fail when the plywood is exposed to high humidity or boiling temperatures. Marine plywood is both lightweight and strong, and it is virtually defect-free. It is also water resistant, making it ideal for use in the construction of boats and boat parts. The use of water and boil proof adhesive in the manufacture of marine plywood prevents plies from delaminating (divide into smaller layers). As a result, even if the boat's hull or protective layer is damaged or gets wet when submerged, the wood will not be harmed.

Because marine plywood is not pressure-treated, it must be protected with a water-resistant finish if it is to be used in outdoor projects. Marine plywood can also be used for outdoor furniture in coastal areas after being treated with a strong protective finish.

The following grades of marine plywood are available for use in various projects that require high resistance to water and humidity:

A-A: This grade of marine plywood typically comes in sizes of 4 feet x 8 feet, or 5 feet x 12 feet. The marine plywood is available in half-inch thickness.

A-B: This grade of marine plywood has a thickness of ¾ inches, and available in the sizes of 4 feet x 8 feet. This stronger grade of marine plywood has no open knots.

B-B: This grade of marine plywood is also known as face-back marine plywood. It is one of the most commonly used grades of marine plywood.

Medium Density Overlay (MDO): This grade of marine plywood is made with high-quality thermosetting. Resin-impregnated fibre overlay is attached to at least one side of MDO under pressure. MDO is very strong, durable, and offers high dimensional stability.

High Density Overlay (HDO): This grade of marine plywood offers a smoother or steel form finish as it produces more resin. It is available in either ½-inch thickness or ¾-inch thickness, and the panel is often available in the size of 4 feet by 8 feet.

Though high-quality marine plywood is available under a variety of brands, Matilda Veneer marine plywood outperforms the competition in many ways. Matilda Veneer uses only the highest quality timber as veneers in the production of marine plywood. Each layer of veneer is vacuum pressure treated (VPT) to make it borer and termite resistant, as well as super smooth. The use of quad-press technology results in the production of a warp-free, super-powerful bond with zero surface gap in Matilda Veneer's marine plywood.

Fire rated boards to protect lives and assets in a fire event

If you need fire-rated boards, Matilda Veneer has the best quality boards with low conductivity and high heat absorption. Aerated gypsum, glass fibre, and additives are used to strongly bond the components of fire-rated FR board. Matilda Veneer's fire rated boards are specially designed to withstand fire for up to 02 hours. The boards have been specially treated to improve their fire resistance characteristics such as low heat conductivity, high heat absorption, and low shrinkage. Fire spreads quickly by exploiting structural flaws such as highly combustible wood and clothing. A fire rated board offers passive fire protection (PFP) to a structure by preventing fire from spreading internally and externally. Fire-rated boards available at Matilda Veneer can withstand the spread of fire for up to two hours, giving building occupants enough time to safely escape.

Because it contains fibre, drywall made of does not easily disintegrate, providing an excellent fire barrier. Fire rated boards can be used in load-bearing structures such as columns, beams, walls, and ceilings to keep them load-bearing for long enough for occupants to flee for safety.

More varieties for your inspirations

Fire-rated board is best suited for use in high-temperature environments such as kitchens, partitions, beams and column encasement systems, office spaces, false ceilings, and server and inverter rooms. Using marine plywood in drywall, false ceilings, and wall cladding can improve acoustic performance.

Matilda Veneer provides many more plywood varieties for your inspiration and creation, including birch plywood, truewood veneer, enhanced veneer, sliced veneer, and Fireply X, as well as silver ash truewood, quarter cut candlenut, crown cut spotted gum, quarter cut grey ironbark, crown cut Jarrah, crown cut American walnut, and many more. Matilda Veneer's products all come with a Chain of Custody Certification, which guarantees their standardised storage practices.
