OCD: A Painful Disease
Posted: May 19, 2022
Whether Addiction or OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), patients with these disorders exhibit DENIAL, which is a symptom of these illnesses and thus the patient is never able to understand and accept that he has an illness. Although the patient is suffering and it is very tough for him yet, he is unable to control or find any solution and his rationality is not working..
PATIENT WITH OCD AND ADDICTION
OCD is a disease of the brain. where a person has obsessions, anxieties, fixed belief systems. His thoughts occur from a sick brain. Any one thought which seeks assurance and is done a few times becomes an obsessive pattern of the Brain and the brain starts doing it automatically, as that is how the mechanism of the Brain works. Later even though the mind gets tired and understands that it is not right but still the brain doesn't stop.
For instance, an OCD patient is getting ready for the office, his actions and behaviours convey a sense of dysfunctionality., like he spends unusual duration on choosing and checking his clothes, long time for bathing, gets ready checking and rechecking himself in the mirror a number of times, goes in the car but comes back several times to check if he locked the door or not and so on.
The thoughts and belief systems of the mind become the obsessive compulsive disorder of the Brain.... which, to mention again is, an automatic process of the Brain. So when we ask the patient( who is suffering from this illness) to stop his repeated actions,
HOW IS OCD DIAGNOSED?
In reality there is no test for this complicated disease. Best De-addiction centres have specialised professionals, doctors and therapists who will ask you about your symptoms. It will depict a clear vision of the mental disorder to the concerned Psychologists,
AREN'T WE TRYING TO TELL HIM TO STOP AN AUTOMATIC ACTIVITY?!!
Rather, it increases the conflict already occurring in the brain.
If the OCD patient has comorbidity, say, he suffers from Addiction too, then the issues get doubled, addiction itself is an obsession of doing a substance again and again, despite the harmful effects and his misery. These are illnesses which need to be treated scientifically with best medical practices. The Recovery program teaches the skills which can help the patient to get insight, and learn to manage by practising the learnt skills.
For better acknowledgement, it is advised to visit the best de addiction centre in punjab. The team of expert psychologists will diagnose and deal efficiently with the psychological distress and mental illness.
