1. MBA Distance Education in Annamalai University -

In the early 1920s, to serve the downtrodden and promote Tamil Literature, Rajah Sir S. R. M. Annamalai Chettiar founded Sri Minakshi College, Sri Minakshi Tamil College, and Sri Minakshi Sanskrit College in a rural setup at Chidambaram. In 1928, Rajah Sir S. R. M. Annamalai Chettiar agreed with the local Government to hand over the above-said institution for establishing a University. Thus, on 01.01.1929 Annamalai University is established as per the Annamalai University Act 1928 (Tamil Nadu Act 1 of 1929).

Annamalai University offers Distance Education in MBA with seven different specializations.

The most significant development is the enactment of the Annamalai University Act, 2013 (Tamil Nadu Act 20 of 2013), which has come into force on September 25, 2013, after obtaining the assent of His Excellency, the President of India.

"The QS World University Ranking – 2021" has ranked Annamalai University in the band of 301 – 350 in the Asia Ranking.

"The CWTS Leiden Ranking 2019", on the scientific impact of universities and on universities’ involvement in scientific collaboration & scientific performance, has ranked the University 23rd based on the number of publications and 7th based on the proportion of publications, compared with other publications in the same field and in the same year, belong to the top 10% most frequently cited.

"The SCImago Institutional Ranking" (2019) has ranked 9th in Tamil Nadu and 29th among the top 212 ranked institutions for Higher Education in India.

International Comparative Performance of India’s Research Base (2009-14), a report published by Elsevier in April 2016, prepared in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science. The Government of India has rated the University as the top Indian Institute in Pharmacology. 17th among the top 30 Indian Universities in Publications with the highest subject area Publication Count in Pharmacology.

As far as the Global Exposure, Indian Science Ascending, a Springer Nature report, done in conjunction with the Confederation of Indian Industries, has ranked the University as 11th among the top 20 Indian Institutions in International Collaborations.

The University has participated in the Southern (Antarctic) Ocean Expeditions (SOE) organized by National Centre for Antarctic Ocean Research from 2011 – to 12 onwards.

2. Madras University Distance Education -

The University of Madras developed an excellent Institute of Distance Education in the year 1981 to help learners to achieve their educational goals. It has completed more than 25 years of service in the field of Distance Education. Welcome to the Institute of Distance Education, which is meant for excellent Learning, Teaching, and Learning Support. The acronym IDE is very famous for aspiring learners.

IDE is a unique design unit of the University of Madras to promote higher education. While we are strong in developing and delivering courseware in the traditional print model, significant achievements have been made in instructional design using recent technologies. This includes blended learning, an interactive and face-to-face classroom environment. For our current and future students, we have committed to providing you with the best pedagogical support. Distance Learning has become one of the primary engines behind much of the world's literacy growth.

The Institute of Distance Education university was established in 1981 as a constituent of the University of Madras with the objective of providing an opportunity for greater access to education and thereby raising the levels of intellectual attainments of people from different strata of our Country as well as from other countries.

Learning can take place anywhere, typically within the work environment at a time when the need for learning manifests itself. Learning is no more a separate or cloistered event but a part of everyday life. Therefore, learners choose when to seek learning and what specific knowledge or skills they will acquire. It is they who decide when to stop and when to resume. The Institute of Distance Education offers numerous programs in the distance mode. It is a specialist Institute with a core group of staff drawing upon content and expertise from other Departments. It undertakes to design courses, produces materials, and oversees their distribution.

The University lends flexibility to the Institute of Distance Education to offer courses from different Departments and also to initiate its own programs in response to emerging needs promptly. The IDE has been a great boon to such students who cannot undergo full-time study. Also core to the IDE operations and strategic growth is external development projects in collaboration with the public and private sectors. These projects are diversified in purpose, with an educational focus, and include the use of technology for enhancement. As of today, the IDE offers 109 programs in the distance mode. All programs of IDE have the approval of the DEC. We support over 100 examination locations in this country and abroad.
