points available

The Canadian government created a merit-based scoring system that allocates a score to each candidate in the Express Entry pool in order to rank immigration candidates. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is the name of the point-system, and the CRS score is the number issued to each applicant based on their individual profile. Express Entry oversees three different programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker (FSW)
  • Federal Skilled Trades (FST)
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

A CRS score of 1200 points is assigned to everybody who uploads a profile to the Express Entry pool of candidates. The Canadian government holds an Express Entry draw every two weeks, in which the highest-ranking individuals are issued Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residency. Note that IRCC does not reveal the date of the draw, the number of ITAs that will be given, or the minimum CRS score required for Canada PR in advance of each draw.

How to calculate your CRS score?

To qualify for Express Entry candidates are allotted scores in the following categories:

  • age
  • level of education
  • official language proficiency
  • second official language
  • Canadian work experience.

There are a total of 1,200 points available under the Comprehensive Ranking System:

  • a maximum of 500 points available for core human capital factors;
  • a maximum of 100 points available for skill transferability factors;
  • 600 points available for either a provincial nomination; or
  • up to 200 points available for a qualifying offer of arranged employment; and
  • up to 30 points for Canadian study experience;
  • up to 50 additional points for French language ability, combined with English language ability; and
  • a maximum of 15 points for a sibling in Canada.

For candidates who are applying with a spouse or common-law partner, there are the following:

  • a maximum of 460 points available for core human capital factors of the principal applicant;
  • a maximum of 40 points for the core human capital factors of the spouse or common-law partner;
  • 600 points available for either a provincial nomination; or
  • up to 200 points available for a qualifying offer of arranged employment; and
  • up to 30 points for Canadian study experience.
  • up to 50 additional points for French language ability, combined with English language ability; and
  • a maximum of 15 points for a sibling in Canada (one sibling of the principal applicant and the accompanying spouse/common-law partner is considered).

How can you boost your CRS score?

1. Get a Provincial Nomination

This is a relatively simple approach to get to the pool's top. Your home province's nomination shall be worth 600 points. When a Canadian province nominates you, you virtually always get Canadian PR. Keep a watch on the most recent PNP draws because they change frequently.

2. Get a Canadian job offer

A job offer from a Canadian company can increase your CRS score by 200 points. Refresh your resume, practise interviewing techniques, and perform a thorough job search. Hire an employment specialist if necessary.

3. Get an additional educational degree

You can get up to 200 points if you have exclusively studied outside of Canada. It can increase up to 50 if you have a post-secondary certificate from within Canada. You can always enrol in another degree program, get new credentials, or have your current academic qualifications upgraded by ECA.

4. Apply with your common law partner

Bringing your spouse or common-law partner to Canada with you can also help you earn more CRS points. If you have a spouse or common-law partner, your CRS score can increase by 40 points. If your CRS is lower than theirs, make your spouse or common-law partner the primary applicant.

5. Gather more work experience

If you are working outside of Canada and have less than three years of experience, keep working. As long as you are employed, your CRS points will automatically update whenever you reach a new work experience criterion.

6. Improve your Language Skills

If you haven't gotten the most out of your language exam scores yet, this could be a wonderful way to boost your CRS points and here calculate Canada CRS score. Retake your language tests, aiming for higher scores in each of the four language competencies (speaking, listening, reading, and writing).
