Is traveling healthy?

Traveling for pleasure is not only fun, it can also have physical and mental health benefits. Whether you are exploring a city, enjoying picturesque landscapes, or breathing in the fresh air in the countryside.

If you’re lucky enough to travel, here are four reasons to pack your bags.

1- Traveling keeps your heart healthy

If you enjoy walking in the city or nature, you can probably walk 10,000 steps in a day. This number equates to roughly 4 miles for most people and is associated with a moderate level of exercise. If you can also combine it with a bit of tourism or other activities, you will be doing your health in general and your heart, in particular, a great favor.

It is found that a person who vacationed only once every six years was eight times more likely to have a heart attack or develop coronary artery disease than a person who vacationed twice a year.

The results took risk factors such as obesity or smoking into account. Another study, conducted by researchers at the State University of New York, followed 12,000 men who were at high risk of developing coronary artery disease for nine years. Those who didn’t take annual leave were 32% more likely to die of a heart attack.

2- Traveling can make you feel younger

According to the Global Coalition on Aging report, stress accelerates the aging process. It’s like injecting the hormone cortisol into your body every day. According to the organization, it weakens the immune system and increases the chance of diseases like adrenal dysfunction, headaches, and irritable bowel syndrome.

Luckily, it doesn’t take long before you start to feel the stress-relieving effects of a pleasure trip. A 2012 Expedia survey of 500 people found that it only takes a day or two on vacation to feel relaxed. A 2002 study by researchers at the University of Surrey in the UK suggests that simply planning a trip evokes positive feelings and makes tourists much happier with their lives so this is how traveling plays a vital role in our life.

3- Traveling boosts your creativity

If you want to come up with new ideas, stop thinking about them and go for the trip as traveling has that magic that makes our mind more powerful than ever, and the mind’s ability to jump back and forth between different ideas is a key component of creativity.

It is perhaps no coincidence that famous artists such as Paul Gaugin, Ernest Hemingway, and Igor Stravinsky created their most admired works during or immediately after a stay abroad.

4- Traveling promotes personal development

If you are young and can take the opportunity to move abroad for a period of time, research has shown that the experience can be very beneficial to your personal development.

Dr. Julia Zimmerman and Dr. Franz Neyer from the Friedrich Schiller University in Germany compared the personality development of more than 3,000 German students who had studied abroad for at least one semester with a group that did not travel.

The results showed that those who studied abroad were generally more extroverted than those who refrained from traveling during their studies. Travelers also tended to show increased openness to new experiences and greater emotional stability upon return.

Most people become more conscientious, affable, and emotionally stable during the transition from adolescence to adulthood. So whatever your age group and travel style, there are benefits to taking some time off and having a leisurely trip.
