Our Poke Fresh Menu Will Make You a Believer
Posted: May 31, 2022
Here at Pola Poke Bowls, we (like all Hawaiians) take our Poke extremely seriously. Most people who aren't from Hawaii think of "Poke" and immediately think of raw fish bowls. However, this isn't always the case. Our "mixed bowls" menu has both our raw fish specialties and some cooked dishes, like chicken, shrimp, and crab.
That might seem strange to some people. But the word "Poke" has nothing to do with fish. Poke means "to slice or cut" in Hawaiian, which lends the conventional Poke bowl a far wider meaning. Aland Kyser, who is from Hawaii and wrote the cookbook Aloha Kitchen, says that in the mixed bowls, the fish is the main attraction and the rest of the food is like a chorus line. Poke is usually made with ahi tuna or salmon that has been marinated. At Pola Poke Bowls in Reno, we offer both of these options in our poke bowls. We don't stop there, however. We like to go a little bit further.
The best poke mixed bowls Recipe in our MenuWe only use the freshest ingredients, and we're proud of both our traditional and not-so-traditional Build Your Own Bowl (BYOB) menus. Yes, you read that right. You can choose from all of our ingredients to make your own tasty mixed Poke bowl. So, you can make the best bowl of Poke ever.
Pick from our menu of poke mixed bowls.
The Bowl of Good FoodOur Favorite Food You might not get superpowers from eating poke bowl, but you never know. Oxford Languages says that a "superfood" is a "nutrient-rich food that is thought to be especially good for health and well-being."
You can choose either kale or brown rice for the base of our Superfood Poke Bowl. Kale has been known as a superfood for a long time because it has a lot of vitamins and minerals. Kale is full of iron, folate, vitamin B6, and calcium. If you choose brown rice, you can also count on getting a lot of fiber.
On our menu of mixed bowls, the protein in the Superfood Bowl is sesame shoyu-sauced salmon with cucumber, sesame seeds, scallions, and red onion. The fresh avocado, edamame, pickled ginger, and seaweed salad on top of our delicious Superfood Bowl make it taste even better. We add furikake and dried strips of nori seaweed for a crunchier superfood kick.
The Bowl on the OthersideOn our menu of mixed bowls, our Otherside Bowl is the rebel. We use a standard white rice base, but instead of raw fish, we use chicken with a garlic chili or teriyaki sauce, cucumber, scallion, sesame seed, and red onion. This tasty Poke bowl also has fresh mango, corn, jalapeno, carrot, avocado, edamame, and crispy onion and coconut on top. The Otherside Bowl is perfect for those of us who don't like eating raw fish and prefer a more "chicken" approach.
Okay, this is one of my favorite things. My mom, too. My girlfriend as well. Her mom... You understand. Like both sweet and hot? Classic ways to poke fish? Lots of tasty fruits and vegetables? Well, you can also use our vacation bowl!
We start this popular mixed bowl with mixed greens and white rice. Then we add tuna or salmon with a pineapple ponzu sauce, as well as cucumber, sesame seed, scallions, and red onions, which are some of our signature ingredients. We give our Vacation Bowls an extra spicy kick by putting spicy crab on top, followed by avocado, fresh pineapple, and seaweed salad. We give this Vacation Bowl a crunch with furikake and coconut macadamia nuts.
The spirit of Aloha is the way that everyone's kindness and heart work together, whether they are from Hawaii or not. When someone says "aloha," it means they care about you and want to show you warmth and love, but they don't expect you to do the same. "Aloha" describes a relationship in which each person is important to the happiness and survival of the other. "Aloha" means to hear what isn't said, to see what can't be seen, and to know what can't be known.
When we were making our mixed bowls menu, the Aloha Bowl was a must-have. Also, we really put our hearts and souls into it to really show what "Aloha" is all about. We start with plain white rice, then add ahi tuna and octopus, sesame shoyu, cucumber, sesame seeds, scallions, and red onions. We put sweet pineapple, bell peppers, seaweed salad, masago with the crunchy kick of furikake, dried seaweed, and crispy onions on top of our fresh toppings.
Vegans and vegetarians both love that beet bowl.
We have a menu item called "Love that Beet Mixed Bowl" for people who like Poke but are vegan or vegetarian. We start with a base of plain mixed greens, then add beets, avocado, and a Japanese dressing. We then add wasabi sesame seeds and crunchy garlic for a spicy and crunchy kick.

How to Make the Recipe for the Poke Bowl?Get the rice ready. Brown rice takes a little longer to cook than white rice, so keep that in mind. Most of the time, it takes about 40 minutes to cook in my rice cooker. You can also do this step ahead of time.
Tuna needs to be in a marinade. Cut the ahi tuna into small cubes with a knife that is VERY sharp. Put in a medium-sized bowl. In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, and sesame oil. Marinate the ahi tuna while you get the other things ready.
Get ready the spicy mayo. Mix the mayo and sriracha together in a small bowl. Mix it all together. Salt & pepper to taste. Put the mayonnaise in a small zip-lock bag. Take off a small piece of the corner.
Put the bowls side by side. I told you it would be easy. Cooked rice should fill up half of a bowl. Put the tuna on top of the rice. Put cucumber, carrot, and edamame around it. Spread the avocado over top. Add sesame seeds and thin slices of green onion. Put hot mayonnaise on top.
