In Chengdu, which is located in western China, the "Chengdu Urban Bus Passenger Transport Regulations" (hereinafter referred to as the "Regulations"), which will come into effect on January 1st, 2022, requires that all new and replaced buses use new energy vehicles. At present, 100% of the newly added and replaced buses in the local area are new energy vehicles, and this regulation has been clarified from the legislative level.

According to statistics from Chengdu Public Transportation Group Co., Ltd., as of early September this year, the group had put into use 3,500 electric buses; it is expected that by the end of this year, the number of new energy vehicles will reach 4,000.

This is a microcosm of greener urban travel in China. According to a report recently disclosed by the Ministry of Transport of China, by the end of 2020, the number of new energy vehicles in China's urban buses reached 466,000, accounting for 66.2% of the total urban buses.

On April 29, 2022, the launching ceremony of new energy buses in Baicheng County was held at the Baicheng County Passenger Station.

The 18 new energy buses put into operation this time were purchased by Baicheng County Automobile Transportation Co., Ltd. with an investment of 9 million yuan. The buses are equipped with independent ballot boxes and mobile phone scanning code vending machines, voice station announcements, caring seats, and safety handrails. Equipped with other equipment, the new energy electric bus is spacious and bright, with comfortable spacing, and is equipped with high efficiency electric bus air conditioning system.

The successful opening of the new energy bus line is another important and happy event for Baicheng County to build a civilized city, develop a low-carbon economy, relieve urban traffic pressure, improve the travel conditions of the masses, and accelerate the promotion of high-quality economic development. "Urban Public Transport" opens a new chapter.

In October, 2020, 15 hydrogen fuel cell buses were put into operation in Baicheng, Jilin Province, northeast China. This is also the first hydrogen fuel bus line in Northeast China. It has transported 900,000 passengers. These hydrogen fuel cell buses are independently developed and designed by FAW Jiefang Commercial Vehicle Development Institute, and manufactured and produced by FAW Jiefang Changchun Smart Bus Branch.

"No matter how cold it is in winter, you can get off the bus, and there is no diesel smell on your body after driving all day. This car is much cleaner than the conventional ones," said Liu Lei, a driver of the Baicheng Bus Company.

In 2015, the Ministry of Transport of China "Implementation Opinions on Accelerating the Promotion and Application of New Energy Vehicles in the Transportation Industry" proposed that "by 2020, the number of new energy city buses will reach 200,000", but the actual number is more than the original target. More than double. This is inseparable from China's "policy assistance" for the promotion and application of new energy buses in recent years.

Just this year, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Transport of China jointly issued a document stipulating that the amount of price increase subsidies in the refined oil price subsidies for urban buses is linked to the number of new energy buses promoted; in 2018, the Ministry of Transport of China proposed that " By the end of 2020, all buses in municipalities directly under the Central Government, provincial capitals, and built-up areas of cities under separate state planning will be replaced with new energy vehicles," as one of the key tasks in the battle against pollution

Some Chinese provinces have also released policy measures to accelerate the development of new energy vehicles. Taking Shanghai as an example, the "Shanghai Implementation Plan for Accelerating the Development of New Energy Vehicle Industry (2021-2025)" clearly states that by 2025, the city's public transport vehicles, cruise taxis, official vehicles of party and government organs, and trucks in central urban areas, Postal vehicles will fully use new energy vehicles.

At the same time, China's new energy vehicle technology is improving day by day. Lian Xiaojing, manager of Baicheng Bus Company, introduced that hydrogen fuel cell buses have the characteristics of short refueling time and long cruising range. Compared with pure electric vehicles, the hydrogen fuel cell bus takes only 15 minutes to refuel and has a cruising range of more than 500 kilometers, which has more advantages in urban bus operation and energy saving.

Public transport companies are also actively using new energy vehicles to provide passengers with a more comfortable and convenient ride experience. In September of this year, Chengdu Public Transport Group launched a customized bus all the way using the latest new energy model - "Second Brother Facebook". It is 3.8 meters high and has a passenger capacity of 48 seats. The car is equipped with four-way adjustable seats., there are three kinds of variable atmosphere lights and reading lights and other facilities; the car seats are equipped with cup holders, foot pedals, etc., which are convenient for passengers to place items and adjust their sitting posture. This customized bus departs from outside the city's West Fourth Ring Road and goes directly to the vicinity of the South Fourth Ring Road, providing convenience for "dagong workers" who go to work across half of the city every day.

At the 2nd United Nations Global Sustainable Transportation Conference, which concluded recently, China proposed to speed up the formation of green and low-carbon transportation modes, strengthen the construction of green infrastructure, promote new energy, intelligent, digital and lightweight transportation equipment, encourage and guide green Travel, make transportation more environmentally friendly and travel more low-carbon.

The latest data shows that in the first three quarters of this year, the production and sales of new energy vehicles in China reached 2.166 million and 2.157 million respectively, an increase of 1.8 times and 1.9 times year-on-year respectively. Among the main varieties of new energy vehicles, compared with the same period of the previous year, the production and sales of pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles continued to grow steadily.

"As the largest country in the production and sales of new energy vehicles, China has strong cost advantages and industrial chain advantages," said Gong Min, chief analyst of UBS China's auto industry.
