Kannaur Lokesh Rahul was born in a highly educated family. His father, KN Lokesh, is a professor in Civil Engineering Department of NIT (National Institute of Technology) Karnataka and his mother Rajeshwari was a professor at Mangalore University. In fact, he spent the majority of his childhood on the campus of NIT Karnataka and it was on the grassless grounds of the college campus that he used to play cricket as a young boy. His parents identified his potential and decided to give him formal cricket coaching. The rest, as they say, is history.

KL Rahul started from U-19 cricket and slowly made his way into Karnataka’s first-class cricket team, making his debut in 2010. After a slow start, Rahul finally got his breakthrough season in 2012 when he was the highest run-scorer. His exploits did not go unnoticed and he was signed by IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore the very next season.

In 2014, Rahul made his Test debut for India against Australia in the memorable MCG Test. The pressure of his debut was too much for young Rahul and he gave horrible performances in both the innings. India ended up losing the match and the series.

1. During India’s tour of the West Indies in 2016, KL Rahul posted a picture of himself holding a beer bottle alongside Umesh Yadav and Stuart Binny in a selfie.
