Geodesic dome tents are gaining popularity as event tents quickly. They are affordable, strong, resilient and versatile. With that said, that’s not at all. They also make the perfect canvas for a geodesic dome projection system. You can give your next event a considerable push by including 3D dome projection. Audiovisual can be projected directly on the interior canvas for wowing your guests and event attendees.

A lot goes into creating the right audiovisual and making a perfect 3D projection event. You would need the right quality of content and the equipment to project it.

Image Format for Geodesic Dome Projections

You need to understand that a regular landscape format, 16:9 or 4:3 is not going to work for a geodome. You need the content to be in a square format since the media server will be 360. The content within the square should be in a round format. This means that you can have a video of 2048×2048 pixels or 4056×4056 pixels in a 4K format and so on. But, the actual image within the square will be projected in a round format. A terrific way of taking advantage of 16:9 or 4:3 format is to add them as windows embedded in the content.

Video Projectors

The number of video projectors required depends on the size of the dome. You can get away with using a single projector in a small dome as long as you center it and use a wide-angle lens. With that said, you can get better results if you use a dual video projector working in tandem. In addition, you cannot expect a 4K or an 8K quality if the projector only has a maximum quality of 2K. You would need to do better than 2K if you want solid results in your 360º projection mapping.

You can use 6 2K video projectors if you want to section high quality images at source. This will also allow you a decent level of brightness. The best projector you can use in your dome tent is a mid/high-end projector with 20,000 lumens.

Media Server

Media Servers have evolved in recent years. You don’t need to make content adjustments point by point. In fact, you can make use of media servers that come with self-adjusting cameras. The camera will detect the position of each projector and automatically adjust the content.

You should consider using trays for supporting the projectors and media servers instead of using lecterns or totems. There will always be someone that stands up or walks close to the projector. It can be someone from the technician team or a guest. Tiniest vibrations can get projected on the screen and lower the overall quality. Using trays fixed to the geodesic structure will prevent this happening. It will also provide better stability for the geodesic dome projection system.
