Like any electronic device, nothing is eternal. However, you just bought a light less than a year ago, and yet you suspected that it could not pass away like that. Well you are right! In itself, the luminaire is not dead. This is just one of many components that failed. In this article, you will find out which components are malfunctioning. How to repair a light fixture?

All my bulbs are not lighting up anymore!

Does your luminaire containing several bulbs and/or types of bulbs (G4, G9, E14, E27) no longer light up? None of the bulbs work. This problem is NOT with the bulbs themselves. The probability that they are all grilled at the same time is too low.

To begin this diagnosis, you must first know if:

  • The luminaire is no longer switched on by remote control, but with the switch yes.
  • The luminaire does not switch on in any case.
The advantages and disadvantages Lightings

The success of solar lighting is growing with the public because of its many advantages. For their part, manufacturers continue to offer ever more innovative and interesting models. Are you still hesitating? Here are the main advantages of solar lighting:

  • Solar lighting is completely autonomous and uses renewable energy.
  • Thanks to LED technology, it is recognized for its lighting quality and low consumption.
  • The batteries are more and more efficient to ensure an autonomy of several hours.
  • It is an easy to install system, which requires no electrical connection!
  • Solar lights are made to withstand outdoor conditions and require very little maintenance.

Despite its advantages, solar lighting also has some disadvantages to take into account before you start. Keep in mind that the intensity of the light depends exclusively on the sun. If the latter is shy during the day, the light returned will be too. It can even be zero in winter!

Replacing a solar battery can represent a certain cost. Sometimes the reference sought may not be available on the market, so that the whole lamp has to be changed. We recommend that you find out about the brand before investing!

The remote control does not turn on my light!

Do not panic! If indeed you manage to turn on your ceiling light or chandelier via the switch, nothing is wrong with your light! This remote control problem can have two origins. Here are the solutions that KosiLum brings you.

  • Problem with the remote control :
Nothing is infallible, your remote control may be malfunctioning. Try replacing the batteries. If after that the remote control no longer works, it is the very technology of the remote control that is out of adjustment. To do this, contact our customer service, so that we can provide you with a replacement remote control. Your light will then be controllable again by remote control!
  • Receiver problem :
Even if after exchanging the remote control is not enough to turn on your ceiling light, the only and other solution is to change the receiver. This receiver is located in the base of the luminaire. By changing it, your light will again recognize the remote control and you will be able to enjoy home automation again.

2. Neither the switch nor the remote control can turn on my light!

In the vast majority of cases, you will end up in this situation. You don't know what to do and you're too afraid to do things yourself, you hesitate to call an electrician and pay an outrageous sum. And yet the solution is right there, nothing very complicated.

Again, there are two origins to the problem.

  • Problem with your electrical installation :
Electricians can be charlatans and charge you a lousy service. Take the bull by the horns! Turn off the electricity to your home and check the wiring to the light fixture. It's not very complicated, you just have to connect the brown wire to the brown and the blue to the blue located in the domino of the luminaire. Make sure that the copper of the wire is visible and insert it deeply into the domino. Screw everything to properly connect the two wires (one from the power source and the other from the light). Once you feel that you have correctly connected the colored wires and that after tightening, they do not come out of the domino, turn on the electricity and finally enjoy your designer chandelier or ceiling light.
  • Problem with the electrical transformer :
The wires are well connected but your light does not turn on? One of the components of the ceiling light must have burned. In any case it is about bulbs. It's probably the electrical transformer. This small white box connects the current between the incoming and outgoing wires of the luminaire or LED Lighting. This component can suddenly drop. Just replace it. For around twenty euros (or free if your ceiling light is still under warranty), you can bring your light back to life in the blink of an eye. And what's more, it's very simple, you always have to connect the brown wire to the brown, the blue wire to the… I'll let you guess.

But sometimes, your transformer may give up with an explanation. Take a good look at the case of this component, and take a good look at the "Max […] Watts". Suppose it says "Max 160 W" on the transformer. Then check the total number of bulbs the fixture has and the wattage of a single bulb. If your ceiling light has 10 bulbs of 20 Watts each, well the explanation is there! You subjected your transformer to 200W when it could only support 160W! It's much too powerful for him, it's normal that he let go.

To fix this problem (before installing a new transformer!) is to change your light bulbs. Take 15W bulbs, so the whole thing will be 150W. The 160W transformer will support them with no problem.

Also opt for LED bulbs! A single LED bulb, consuming only 3W, will illuminate just as much as a 20W halogen bulb. The whole thing will therefore be 30W. Very easy to support for your electrical transformer!
