Functioning of the Mini Dairy Plant

• Raw milk is stored in silos
• Impurities in the milk are removed
• The milk then moves to the pasteuriser
• The milk is heated to 72.5 degrees Celsius in the pasteuriser with electricity
• The milk passes through the homogeniser once heated to 65 degrees Celsius
• During homogenisation, the fat globules are broken down into extremely small particles and distributed uniformly through the milk to prevent the separation of cream in the milk
• The milk is then returned to the pasteuriser where pathogens and microorganisms are destroyed at a temperature of 72.5 degrees Celsius
• Then the milk is cooled to 8 degrees Celsius in the PHE Chiller
• The milk is then moved to a storage tank
• Once stored, the milk is packaged in pouches of 200ml, 500ml or 1000ml capacities using a Nichrome milk packaging machine
