Children living on the streets are surrounded by overwhelming circumstances. They are constantly in danger due to a serious lack of safety and protection. Street children encounter devastating challenges on a daily basis that many other children do not. Due to a lack of legal identification, a permanent address or a guardian, street children are frequently unable to enrol in a formal school. On the off chance that they want to go to school and have the support system to do so, they still face struggle as they have spent years on the streets and are not let back in with younger students. This makes them try and catch up with those their age. Children who do attend schools after living on the streets, experience marginalisation, stigmatisation, and prejudice from their teachers and peers, which has an adverse effect on their well-being and academic performance.

Street children are already psychologically vulnerable and frequently experience physical and sexual abuse, exploitation, and neglect on the streets. The stigmatisation and lack of support within classrooms can further harm these children. Medical aid for street children is not available or accessible yet innumerable children are disproportionately more likely to experience psychiatric illnesses, infections, and other health problems than other children. Abuse, trauma, and neglect can have major, long-lasting repercussions on children's psychological development and health. These health issues may have a negative impact on the academic performance of street children, thus highlighting the need for an educational strategy tailored to meet their unique psychological and health needs.

There are numerous distinct obstacles that street children must overcome in order to attain education. Now more than ever, it needs to be addressed that street children require customised educational activities to meet their requirements. It is essential to acknowledge their realities and provide them with alternative inclusive models. Such integral yet specific needs of children can only work if a functional and effective ecosystem is put in place and implemented - with the involvement of governments, NGOs, and street children.
