Families are a big part of everyone’s life. While growing up, capturing the special moments of the members of your family using a camera is a great way to freeze a memory. Moreover, the prints of family photographs are great for decorating households or gifting to your loved ones!

We know photography can be difficult, especially achieving that professional look in your photos. There are a lot of factors to consider. Be it the camera model, location, poses, composition, the workflow, and that’s why we have created a special family photography guide to deal with every part of family photography.

This guide is basically divided into 4 parts:

  1. Family Photography essentials: Here we cover the best equipment, workflow tools, do’s, and don’ts of family photography. We also have some amazing examples for location ideas, clothing ideas, and how to make family portraits fun and natural to shoot. (as nobody wants a boring photo session) Photographers can start out by reading this to make sure they are going in the right direction.

  1. The shoot: This is the most important part. Basically, covering everything from camera settings to composition to getting sharp focus on your photos. We have also tips for shooting big families, families with pets, and shooting in different settings such as black and white or even better -golden photography.

  1. Posing the family: This part will cover how we can pose the different family members, mainly couples, men, women, and also newborn photography! There are examples with photos to help you direct the family poses better.

  1. Editing Family photography/ Post-production workflow: This part will cover the reasons why should you use presets for your family photos. (as presets are a HUGE timesaver) and some editing tips for family photographers that like to shoot in natural light. This is basically for Lightroom users.

We hope this guide will help you in capturing professional photographs of families no matter what shape or size they are. We believe we have covered everything related to family photography from essentials to post-production.
