Human resources refer to the people working in the organization. From employees at the top management to factory workers, each individual is a resource for the organization and needs to be handled. Human resource management is no easy task. Every employee has different personal goals and objectives. Human beings are complex creatures, and every person is different in some way. Satisfying every employee is often a crucial job yet, professional placement consultants can help you to maintain that employee satisfaction. Human resource management has many important tasks and responsibilities. From recruiting people to training them and taking care of their grievances, all of these roles function with the human resource department. Often organizations take help from placement consultants to make their work easier. The goal of the human resource department is to increase the productivity of the workforce and to ensure that they are working to their full ability. Therefore, effective management of human resources is vital for the success of every business, whether small or big.
The Basic Functions of the Human resource department
Recruitment
The human resource department is responsible for recruiting quality employees. They conduct the entire process of recruitment. Organizations receive applications from job seekers, and the human resource department carefully assesses those applications and then shortlist candidates for further stages. After this, they carry out the screening process and call the potential candidates for an interview. After testing them on all grounds, they select the most suitable candidate for their organization. They use different tools and recruitment methods to find the best match for the organization. The same procedure is carried out by placement consultants; their services are often hired by companies to lower their recruitment costs and save them a lot of time.
Training
Once the human resource department is complete with the recruitment process, the next step is to train the new employees. Every organization has a different work culture, and new employees often take time to adjust to the organization. The human resource department ensures that the new workers are carefully trained for their respective roles and functions.
They do not just provide training to the new employees but also to existing employees to increase their efficiency and productivity. Organizations might be hiring placement consultants to advise them and help them execute various employee motivation strategies.
Incentives and perquisites
Internal motivation is vital to work constructively. If a particular employee is not motivated to complete his tasks and assignments, then he may not be able to complete them productively. The human resource department understands this need for employees. To regularly keep them motivated, they give the employees incentives like bonuses, allowances, and other non-monetary benefits. The human resource department has to plan out the periodic incentives and perquisites that can be given to the employees to keep them happy and motivated.
Administrative work
The human resource department also looks after the administrative management of employees. Granting annual leave, handling resignation related issues, contracts, handling sick leave and absence of employees, all of this is taken care of by the human resource department of the organization. They also take care of matters related to the offer and acceptance letter of employees.
Work climate
Human resource management also includes maintaining a positive work environment and facilitating good human relations. The work environment and culture of an organization play an important role in increasing or degrading the efficiency of employees. It is a proven fact that employees work much better if the environment of the organization is healthy and harmonious. A good work climate decreases absenteeism, stress, and strengthens the commitment of employees towards the organization. It motivates the employees to work constructively and enhances their productivity.
Handling grievances
The human resource department is also responsible for handling the grievances of the employees. If an employee is facing any issues at the workplace, then the human resource managers address those issues. The human resource department helps the employee in resolving their problems. The human resource department also resolves disputes among departments and employees. Many organizations have a separate grievance cell under the human resource department.
Performance assessment
Constant assessment of employee performance is necessary to ensure the efficiency of work. The human resource department regularly evaluates the performance and growth of the employees and takes the required decisions. Their goal is to maintain a balance between the quality and quantity of work.
Above were some main roles in human resource management. However, each part of human resource management is complex and varied and can be accepted in-depth only with practical applicability.
