During summer season or rainy season one of the most common problems or orthopaedic issues that people phase is the joint pain, there are various studies that proves that people have more joint pain during the cold and the rainy season which has direct effect on their health and bone health as well.

This pain is more persistent in the people with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, People in old ages complaint the most that they feel pain when it rains, still many consistent scientific evidence behind this phenomena is puzzling. Basically studies prove that there are typically three factors related to the weather that are believed to increase knee pain that is the humidity, temperature and the atmospheric or baromatic pressure between the joints. All these factors contribute together which can lead to losing of muscles and cartilages, hardening of tendons and the most important rupture of synovial fluid. Even though this thing varies from person to person, these changes in the weather are most commonly associated with the knee pain and pain in other joints.

Factors leading increase in knee pain during rainy season

Rain and atmospheric pressure - the scientific studies that proved the relation between the rain and the joint pain is not actually because of the water but it is due to change in the atmospheric pressure and the changes in the barometric pressure between the joints that causes pain, in people who are having me o after arthritis the destruction of cartilage around the knee exposes the nerves ending of pressure sensing nerves this increases the sensitivity of these nerves throughout which lead to pain with the drastic change in the weather.

Cold temprature - colder temperature is one more factor that leads to increase in knee pain, in the knee there is a fluid that allows the joint to move smoothly without pain, it is proved that the cold weather leads to thickening of the fluid which create more friction between the joint that results into more pain during the cold weather. Also during the cold weather the elasticity and the contraction of muscle and tendons get affects which further attributes to increase in pain.

Barometric pressure - this is one of the most common and the most significant problem which arises during the rainy season between the joints which can lead to access pain in the joints. Barometric pressure is basically weight of air this weight increases with the good weather that is from winter season and decreases during bed weather that is during storms winds and rainy season, during the rainy season the temperature drops and the barometric pressure also decreases which leads to thickening of the fluid between the joints which make it stiffer, if there are step joints the joints will be more sensitive to pain during the movements which can lead to worsen the pain.

How to avoid joint pain during rainy season:-

  1. Keep yourself warm: it is proved that rainy season or cold weather can lead to worseening the pain in the body, When the external temperature drops, take a warm shower to stay warm. Try Wearing warm socks and gloves. Dress in layers during the cold times and try to increase the heat in home at night, try heating the room or area by electric heater to keep the joints warm.
  2. Try paraffin bath: try paraffin bath use a small machine that might pair of in wax dip your hands and feet in paraffin wax leads to hardening of the skin, and helps to absorb heat in the body which can soothe achy joints an alternative of this is using heating pads.
  3. Stay active: Use exercises like yoga, Pilates, and swimming, which put less pressure on the joints, to build up muscle strength.
  4. Maintain healthy weight: maintaining a healthy weight and staying active is the main aspect that helps to avoid pain during the rainy season this helps to building of strength of muscles and bone and also keeps the joint tender and moving.
  5. Begin exercise gradually: exercise regularly for at least 30 to 35 minutes a day, do light moving exercises initially, involve exercise like brisk walk or jog outdoors, always start with stretching that will help to warm up the muscles.
