AC brings coolness amid summer. It provides a pleasant atmosphere for working and sleeping. But, relief also comes at a price. Many people find it stressful seeing excess electricity bills.

In this article, you will find useful tips which help you reduce AC cooling bills.

1. Establish the Proper Default Temperature

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) mandated earlier this year that AC manufacturers keep the default temperature of their devices at 24°C. Earlier, the default temperature was 20 degrees.

According to studies, every degree of temperature increase saves about 6% of electricity. And the lower you keep your air conditioner, the longer its compressors work, increasing your electricity bill.

So, if you keep the air conditioner at its default temperature, you can save up to 24% on electricity.

2. Shut devices and seal spaces to conserve electricity.

When it comes to an air conditioner, closing the door appears normal. However, check all your windows so cold air does not escape the room. Close the curtains to prevent the sun's heat from entering your room, and increase the load on your air conditioner.

Heavy electronic devices, such as the TV and computers, generate a lot of heat and make your air conditioner work harder. Before starting the air conditioner, turn them off. Allow the room to cool before turning the devices back on.

3. Reduced Energy Consumption using both fan and ac

When the air conditioner is running, keep the ceiling fan turned on. They work together to keep the room ventilated and cool air circulating in all corners. You will also not have to keep lowering the temperature.

Start by turning on the fan to remove the hot air from your room, then turn on the AC for effective cooling with minimal energy consumption.

4. Regular maintenance and cleaning

All accumulated dirt in the ducts and vents forces it to work harder to ensure that cool air reaches your room. Replacing dirty filters with new ones can reduce an air conditioner's energy consumption by 5-15%. Furthermore, it prevents the device from breaking down or needing repair. In this way, your best home window air conditioner works faster.

5. Instead of 18 °C, maintain it at 24 °C.

If you live in a city like Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, or Bengaluru, where the average day temperature ranges between 34 and 38°C, set your air conditioner to 10 degrees lower. It gives a pleasant change. Furthermore, our body temperature ranges between 36 and 37 degrees. So any room that is cooler than that is naturally cool for us. We now know that every degree lower on the thermostat results in a 6% increase in electricity consumption. So instead of lowering it to 18°C, try keeping it around 23-24°C. You will quickly realize that your home is perfectly cool even at this temperature.

In this way, you save on your electricity bill. You can also buy an inverter window air conditioner. It will also reduce your electricity bill as it uses inverter technology.
