How to Brew Beer at Home

Most people will head to the nearest liquor store to get their beer, but then there are others who really like the idea of brewing their own. How to Get Started
Gathering the necessary equipment is the first step in the process of brewing your own beer. It is important to have everything you need before you begin. You will need a large pot or brewing kettle (preferably larger than four gallons), a fermentation bucket that comes with a pre-cut hole for an airlock, said airlock, and a fermenter. Other items include a food grade sanitizer, hydrometer, hydrometer jar, auto-siphon, stir spoon,and waterproof thermometer.
Once your beer is ready, you will obviously need to invest in some beer bottles, a funnel, bottle caps, and a bottle capper.
If you do not want to look for all the items individually, you will be glad to know that you can get started with a home brewing kit.
To get started, it is best to use a basic reciperather than trying to be too creative. You will likely need malt with a high starch content, hops, yeast, sugar,and water. These are the basic ingredients that are used to make beer.
Brewing Your Beer
Note that your equipment needs to be sanitized before it can come into contact with the beer so as to avoid contamination. Once you have done this, you can get started on the brewing process. If you have a beer recipe, it is important to follow the instructions carefully. The following information is not an exact recipe but rather a brief outline of the process of home brewing to give you an idea of what is involved.
The first thing to do is to half fill your pot or brewing kettle with water and bring it to the boil. At this point, the hops are added, and the mixture needs to be boiled for another 30 minutes. The next step is to slowly add the sugar and malt and then boil the mixture for five more minutes.
The mixture will then needto be strained into a sterilized fermentation bucketbefore cold water is addedand the whole thing left to cool for around half an hour. The next step is to add yeast to the fermentation bucket and then make sure the bucket is completely covered and left in a cool dry place for ten days.
After the ten days, a crust should have formed on the top of the mixture. If the crust has started to degrade, it is time to siphon it into bottles. Before you start siphoning the beer, you will need to add half a tablespoon of priming sugar to the bottle. This sugar is designed to feed the yeast in the beer to create carbonation. It is this that makes the beer bubbly.
Use your auto-siphon to fill the beer bottles and then use the capper to cap them off. The bottles should then be stored in a dark dry place for at least two weeks to allow them to carbonate. You can then place the beers in the fridge and enjoy them when they are cold.
Brewing at home does not have to be difficult as long as you have all the necessary equipment and ingredients before you begin and that you are patient.
