Different Categories Of Door Locks
Posted: Sep 30, 2022
Door locks are devices that can be used to secure a door from being opened from the outside. They also prevent unauthorised people from entering a room or building. Nobody likes to reside in a home without a door or locks. Door locks are crucial for giving us a sense of security within our houses. Therefore, a lot of people are switching to internal locks for doors nowadays instead of the traditional locks that require keys to unlock.
Several locks can be found on doors. Some of them include-
Knob Locks- Knob locks are a type of door lock that is controlled by a knob on the outside of the door. They are the most common category of door lock in use and are also the simplest to use. There are three knob locks: manual, automatic, and keyed.
Cam Locks- Cam locks are door locks that use a cam to rotate the bolt. These locks are often used on doors that need to be unlocked outside, such as garage doors, file cabinets, or vending machines. A fastener with an attached arm or cam that rotates to lock makes cam locks. They have a metal tube with a hole on one end that helps position the bolt when inserted, and they are cylindrical.
Deadbolt Locks- Deadbolt locks are the most common type of door lock, and they are found on front doors, patio doors, and some windows. They work by using a key to turn a knob that slides along a rail.
The lock will only open when the correct key is inserted and turned. They are less vulnerable to a knife or hand tool because of their distinctive locking mechanism, which is better able to withstand physical assaults, hammering, and boring.
Padlocks- A padlock has a cylindrical lock body with a series of metal teeth that slide along each other. When you try to open the lock, the teeth push against each other and hold the door closed. There are two main types of padlocks: standard and industrial.
Keypad Locks- These are a type of door lock that require users to input a code or passphrase into the keypad to unlock the door. These locks are generally more secure than traditional knob locks, requiring users to enter a specific code to unlock the door. A few keypad locks provide several personalised codes, making it simple for building managers to impose access restrictions. Keypad locks are the best locks for the main door.
Mortise Locks- Mortise locks are typically used on doors with frame hinges in the middle. Mortise locks are inserted into slots in the door's frame and can be opened by rotating a dial or handle. They contain a mechanism inside, making them more of a lockset than a lock.
Smart Locks- Smart locks are devices that can be used to secure door or window openings and provide an additional layer of security. Several types of smart locks include fingerprints, passcode, keyless entry, and dual-stage lock. The most advantageous feature of a smart lock is that it can be operated through a phone or electronic device.
