As we all are tagging along with the changing lifestyle and scenarios, hair loss problems have seen a high rise among adults these days. And especially for people who are 35 and above, the problem of hair thinning and baldness has become extremely common. But since technology is advancing with each passing day, the procedure of scalp micropigmentation or also known as hair tattoo has caught the attention of many. This particular procedure does not have any side effects and offers long-term benefits without having to book appointments for touch-ups, unlike other treatments.

This procedure involves the use of microneedles to apply pigments to give a fuller look to your scalp. It requires around three to four sessions depending on how much micropigmentation is needed for your scalp. But since you are here reading this, you are probably about to undergo your first procedure or have just finished off with the hair tattoo, here are a few important aftercare tips that you need to follow to get the best results.

Aftercare for the first five days

Though your technician will give you the list of dos and don’ts that you need to follow, it is crucial to know what you need to take care of for the first 10 days after the procedure.

  • Drink a lot of water: No one will tell you this, but in the initial days after your procedure, you must stay hydrated at all times and take medications if prescribed.
  • Do not scrub or shampoo: Shampoos have a lot of chemicals in them, and you do not want to put anything on your scalp. Also you need to avoid scrubbing as it can break the skin and cause wounds.
  • Do not touch your scalp: If it is possible try not to touch your scalp as it might get in contact with any germs or bacteria from your hands.
  • Avoid sun and sweat: Since your scalp will be too fragile, the UV rays from the sun can cause damage to the scalp and can lead to early fading of the hair tattoo. Also, you must avoid sweating heavily for the initial few days.

Aftercare for 5 to 10 days

By day five if you follow all the instructions, you will start to notice a lot of healing, but it will still take another few days to completely go normal with your scalp.

  • Avoid everything that can irritate the skin: Since your hair tattoo is still healing, do not use any kind of self-tanners or any skin irritants to disturb the skin.
  • Use moisturizer: Your skin will become dry; therefore, you need to apply a fragrance-free moisturizer at least three times a day.
  • Washing your head with cold water: It is now okay to wash your head with cold water only. If you want, you can use mild soap on your scalp.

It is going to take around 30 days in total to completely heal your hair tattoo. Till then you have to take all the precautions without fail to get the best results for your scalp micropigmentation.
