If a person is both near-sighted (myopic) and far-sighted (hyperopic), choosing a right kind of lens can be a tedious affair as it requires a person to make a calculated decision in order to maximize accuracy and minimize distortion of vision and continue with day to day tasks like driving, reading, watching TV. etc.

Advantages Of Varifocal Lenses

  • No sudden image jump which results in zero straining of eyes and thus, no headaches.
  • Infinite number of focal points to view objects at various distances.
  • No visible line.
  • More natural vision for reading and close viewing.
  • Multiple design variants to choose from.

With the help of so many options available in the market, it is easier for people with poor vision to find options that really suit their needs in the most comprehensive manner that is possible. These types of devices designed for your eyes are the most flexible types because they suit people with all types of vision impairments or all types of needs at the end of the day.

Earlier the only option people had, was to wear bifocals/line bifocals to overcome this dual problem. Bifocals/line bifocals are basically two prescriptions in one lens. Original line bifocals are constructed with most convex part (close viewing) in the lower half of the frame and the least convex part (distant viewing) in the upper half of the frame.

The problem with the line bifocals is that they can cause mild headaches and dizziness to the wearer because of the sudden change in the field of vision too many times. Getting accustomed to the small field of view offered by the reading/lower segment of the frame can take a lot of time as the user is required to move his head or the reading material rather than the eyes. Also, if the user’s job requires him to spend a lot of time in front of a computer monitor, then it can cause muscle fatigue due to the unusual and constant movement of the head.

Varifocal Lens/no-line bifocals are gaining a lot of popularity these days as they negate most of the above mentioned disadvantages of using line bifocals. Also a user can choose from many lens design options available with the Varifocal lens as compared to line bifocals which offer very less design variants.

These lenses allow a user to see far, near and at arm’s distance using just one pair of glasses and unlike line bifocals, they have no visible line, just a smooth transition from near sighted vision to far. Also in the no-line bifocals the user does not have to move his head or reading material to get the right angle but he has to move his eyes.
