The Importance of Picking Up After Your Dog
Blog Introduction: It's a fact of life - every dog creates waste. And as a dog owner, it falls on you to make sure that waste is disposed of properly. Not only is picking up after your dog the law in most places, but it's also considerate to your neighbors and helps keep public spaces clean. Thankfully, there are plenty of easy-to-use products available to make clean up a breeze. Here's everything you need to know about responsible waste disposal.
The Dos and Don'ts of Dog Waste Disposal Whenever your dog does their business, it's important to pick up the waste and dispose of it properly. There are a few different ways to do this, but the most important thing is to just be consistent. Mixing up your methods can confuse your dog and make the whole process more difficult.
Here are a few things to keep in mind:
DO use biodegradable waste bags. These days, there are plenty of eco-friendly options available that will break down in landfills without harming the environment. I get mine from Tuff Pets
DO pick up waste promptly - the longer it sits, the more likely it is to attract pests or spread disease. If you can't dispose of it right away, be sure to store it in a secure place where kids and animals can't get to it.
DON'T throw dog waste in the trashcan - even if the bag is biodegradable, poop attracts flies and other pests. It's better to dispose of it in a landfill designated specifically for pet waste.
DON'T flush dog waste down the toilet - this can clog your pipes and pollute local waterways. The best way to dispose of solid waste is in a biodegradable bag in the garbage. For liquid waste, you can sprinkle some enzymes on it and let nature do its work - the enzymes will break down dog urine into nitrogen and other harmless compounds that will quickly disappear into the soil.
Picking up after your furry friend may not be the most glamorous task, but it's an important part of being a responsible pet owner. With so many easy-to-use products on the market, there's no excuse not to clean up after your pup whenever they do their business. Do everyone a favor and make sure all dog waste is disposed of properly - your community will thank you for it!
