my country is one of the major countries exporting Chinese medicinal materials in the world, and plant extracts account for more than half of the exported Chinese medicinal materials. From 2013 to 2015, the export value of my country's plant extracts has been increasing year by year, and in 2016, as the industry entered a period of adjustment, the export value has declined. In 2016, my country's export of plant extracts reached 1.93 billion US dollars, down 10.93%, accounting for 56% of the total export value of traditional Chinese medicine. From January to April 2017, the export of plant extracts was US$650 million, a year-on-year decrease of 12.38%, and the downward trend continued.

Recently, the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products announced the top ten varieties of plant extracts exported by my country in the past five years. Compared with previous years, the top ten varieties this year have undergone certain changes. In general, plant extracts used as flavors, fragrances, sweeteners and pigments in food and beverages have more and more obvious advantages in exports, while the export volume of plant extracts for health care is slightly inferior.

1. Stevia Extract

Because the high calorie content of sucrose has led to the growing problem of obesity, sugar substitutes have begun to replace sucrose as the main source of sweetness in food. There are two types of sugar substitutes: artificial sweeteners and natural sweeteners. Stevia and Monk fruit sugar are the two most popular natural sweeteners in the international market.

Stevia is extracted from the leaves of Stevia. China is the world's largest producer and exporter of stevia, and the stevia produced is mainly exported to Europe, America, Japan and South Korea. According to the data recently released by the Stevia Association, China's export volume of stevia accounts for about 80% of the international stevia market, and stevia extract has naturally become the plant extract with the largest export volume.

Stevia has been widely used in food, beverages, and health care products. Because of its low calorie, high sweetness, lower blood sugar, and aids in digestion, it can be safely eaten by both diabetics, the elderly and children. In 2015, there were more than 2,500 kinds of stevia foods in the world, with high safety and low cost. The future market of stevia will further develop and grow.

2. Eucalyptus oil, a colorless oily liquid, is extracted from eucalyptus oil, eucalyptus oil, camphor oil, bay leaf oil, etc. It is mainly used as a flavor in the food field. Because eucalyptus oil has a bactericidal effect, it is mainly used in medicine to produce cough syrup, etc. It can also be used to make gargles, toothpastes, air purifiers, etc.

The production of eucalyptus oil in my country started in 1958, and it is now one of the largest producers and exporters of eucalyptus oil in the world, mainly in Yunnan, Guangxi, Guizhou and Chongqing. ASEAN, the European Union, India, the United States and Australia are the main regions for my country's eucalyptus oil exports.

3. Menthol

Menthol is a variety whose export volume has increased rapidly in the past two years. It is the main component of peppermint and peppermint essential oils, and exists in free and ester states. Menthol has 8 kinds of isomers, and their aroma properties are different. Levo-menthol has mint aroma and has a cooling effect, racemic menthol also has a cooling effect, and other isomers have no cooling effect. It can be used as a flavoring agent for toothpaste, perfume, beverage and candy. It is used as a stimulant in medicine, acting on the skin or mucous membranes, and has the effect of cooling and relieving itching; orally, it can be used for headache and inflammation of the nose, pharynx, and throat.

4. Capsicum red pigment

Capsanthin extracted from peppers is a very important natural pigment. Capsicum red pigment is bright in color, high in safety, and has anti-radiation and anti-cancer effects. It is widely used in the food industry, and is widely used in cakes, snack foods, and beverages.

In the early years, the 0 tax rebate system was implemented for the export of capsanthin, and additional fines were added, which greatly restricted the export. On December 31, 2014, the Ministry of Finance issued the "Notice on Adjusting the Export Tax Rebate Rate for Some Products", adjusting the tax rate for natural colorants such as capsanthin, and increasing the tax rebate rate from 0 to 13%. Since then, the export of capsanthin has grown steadily, and currently the main exporting countries are India, Spain and Japan.

5. Marigold Extract

Marigold is the main raw material for the extraction of lutein and carotenoids, and is an important natural colorant. Lutein has good heat resistance, non-toxic and harmless, plus its special physiological effect, which is in line with the development direction of "natural", "nutritious" and "multifunctional" food additives, and can be combined with vitamins, lysine, etc. Commonly used food additives are directly added to food.

Lutein is very important to human eyes and is the most important nutrient for retina and cataract. It also has anti-aging and antioxidant properties.

6. Licorice Extract

Licorice is a plant with great medicinal value. In addition to the effects of invigorating the spleen and qi, clearing away heat and detoxifying, eliminating phlegm and relieving cough as recorded in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia, it can also inhibit diabetes, prevent and treat viral hepatitis, treat senile osteoporosis, Anti-cancer, anti-HIV and other effects.

In addition to the role of food and medicine, licorice is also widely used in cosmetics. Licorice can prevent the formation of melanin, so as to achieve the effect of whitening the skin. In addition, the flavonoids in licorice absorb ultraviolet and visible light, making it a natural sunscreen that does not irritate the skin.

7. Bilberry Extract

Bilberry is a perennial shrub that has a long history of being used abroad to treat diabetes and eye diseases. As a purple plant, bilberries contain more than 15 different anthocyanins. Anthocyanins may help maintain capillary integrity and stabilize collagen. It is also a powerful antioxidant.

Bilberry is suitable for a wide range of people, white-collar workers who use their eyes for a long time, workers who are often exposed to the sun, students who are busy with homework, and the elderly and children with poor immunity. Very good control effect.

8 Ginkgo biloba extract

Ginkgo biloba is an endemic plant in my country. Ginkgo biloba extract is a kind of product enriched with active ingredients extracted from the leaves of ginkgo biloba using appropriate solvents. Various preparations made with GBE as raw materials are widely used in medicine, health care products, food additives, functional beverages, cosmetics and other fields.

The medicinal value and application of Ginkgo biloba extract are very extensive. Using advanced technology, process and equipment, through further extraction, separation and purification, its pharmacological effect is more obvious. It can improve peripheral blood circulation, lower serum cholesterol and assist in anti-cancer, etc. It can be widely used in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, nervous and other system diseases and health care.

9. Milk Thistle Extract

Milk thistle is also known as milk thistle because of the milky sap that oozes when its stems and leaves are cut open. The Kashmir Mountains of India and Pakistan are the source of milk thistle and are now grown in many parts of Europe, America and Australia.

Milk thistle extract is best known for its hepatoprotective properties.

The main active ingredients of silymarin are four isomers of silibinin, isosilybin, silymarin and silibinin, of which the content of silibinin is 50% to 70%. Among the popular brands of liver detoxification, milk thistle extract (80% standardized silymarin) is the most commonly used herb claiming to be "liver detoxification".

So far, European and American countries have carried out more than 120 studies on silybum. The pharmacological and toxicological tests show that the hepatoprotective effect of silybum has been confirmed.

First, it prevents liver damage. It forms a protective film for liver cells to block toxic substances, especially environmental pollutants (pesticides, heavy metals, toxic chemicals, etc.) from invading and damaging the liver. For some acute liver poisoning symptoms, milk thistle can have a certain detoxification effect and can significantly reduce the damage to the liver caused by excessive alcohol.

Secondly, milk thistle has a strengthening and repairing effect on the liver. By stimulating protein synthesis, it can promote liver cell repair and promote cell regeneration. It can obviously protect and stabilize liver cells, and can significantly improve the symptoms and liver function of patients with hepatitis.

Finally, the powerful antioxidant effect of milk thistle can reduce the chance of liver cells being damaged by free radicals and protect liver cell membranes. Has anti-radiation effect. Can inhibit formaldehyde-induced peritonitis.

In addition, milk thistle also has the effect of lowering blood lipids, preventing diabetes and protecting the heart muscle.

10. Rutin

Rutin comes from rut leaves, tobacco leaves, dates, apricots, orange peels, tomatoes, buckwheat flowers, etc. Rutin is mainly used in skin care products, and it has a good effect on resisting ultraviolet rays and anti-aging, and keeping the skin delicate. Rutin has a very strong absorption effect on ultraviolet rays and X-rays. As a natural sunscreen, adding 10% of rutin, the absorption rate of ultraviolet rays is as high as 98%.

The anti-free radical effect of rutin is very powerful. Oxygen molecules are reduced in the form of single electrons in cellular metabolism. O ions generated by oxygen molecules in the single-electron reduction will then generate H2O2 and extremely toxic OH free radicals in the body, thus affecting the smoothness of the skin and even accelerating the skin. The degree of aging, and the addition of rutin to the product can obviously remove the reactive oxygen radicals produced by cells, and the scavenging rate of Oi is as high as 78.1%, which is far greater than the effect of vitamin E (12.7%).
