How to Find a Builder You Can Trust

How to Find a Builder You Can Trust
Most home renovation projects are about converting a loft, extending the kitchen, or creating a multi-purpose space for a growing family. They all involve significant investment, and reliable builders to make it happen. There’s no shortage of building contractors offering their services; the question is, though, how to find a builder you can trust.
Construction Supermarket offers an introductory service for clients who are concerned about the risks involved in hiring local builders. Unfortunately, we’ve seen an awful lot of bad practice in our time, which is why we set up our consultancy in the first place. Our goal is to raise the standards of the construction industry, by introducing a market strategy that minimises risks for our clients.
Who Are The Bad Guys?
We’ve all heard the horror stories about builders that insist they need the money up front, and then disappear after a few days leaving shoddy work behind them. What’s particularly galling about this scenario is the number of times these builders walk away without having to pay back that money. If they have a Ltd company, they can liquidate the business which means they are not personally liable.
The Construction Supermarket Solution
Every building contractor we work with is carefully verified before being put in touch with our clients. We don’t work with companies unless their Directors are held under Personal Guarantee. This means that if there is a problem, they will be held personally responsible for financial recompense. Additionally, we are backed by full liability insurance.
How Does a Risk-Free Introductory Service Work?
We get involved once clients have their architectural drawings, have submitted their building plans to the local council, and their funding is in place. At this stage, they are looking for local builders in London they can trust to complete the job to a high standard.
The Construction Supermarket Team will then:
- Attend your site in order to tender the project.
- Ask verified local builders to quote, and then select the best 3 for consideration.
- Allow you to make your selection. Then a 30% deposit is taken, and a start date is agreed.
- Appoint an approved inspector who will check the build prior to any further payments being made.
- The build is considered complete when it is signed off by the inspector. A 2-week snagging check is made before the final payment is required.
We Weed Out The Bad Guys
Our process of vetting construction companies prior to working with them has allowed us to expose a number of ‘cowboy contractors’ along the way. This is key to raising standards in the industry as a whole and ensuring that homeowners don’t find themselves with nothing to show for their investment.
"Happy to recommend and review. Construction Supermarket did a great job on our extension and the builders they put forward were very professional. I would love to detail the builder’s credentials but understand that’s not the thing to do! Hopefully you have a good experience like I have!"- Bryce Porter
