Many people have heard that LED lights are cheap. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of switching to LED while answering the question of how much it will be cheaper.

What is an LED?

LED is an abbreviation for Light Emitting Diode. LEDs can change color depending on the material used for the substrate, and the appearance of blue LEDs in 1993 made it possible to create white light.

Until now, LEDs were mainly used for signals, signs, and displays, but with the development of blue LEDs, they have come to attract attention as a light source for lighting.

LEDs have many advantages over conventional lighting, and due to their high performance, they are regarded as the fourth generation of lighting, following incandescent bulbs and fluorescent lamps.

Improvements are being made day by day, and white LEDs with high luminous efficiency have increased, so the shift to LED Lighting in Dubai is progressing rapidly.

Why LED saves energy?

Why is LED energy efficient? This is because the luminous efficiency of the LED is good. Luminous efficiency is expressed as the brightness (luminous flux) per power consumption of the lighting, and the unit is lm/W (lumens per watt).

The higher the number, the better the efficiency, that is, the energy saving.

The luminous efficiency of a candle is about 0.3 lm/W, a 40W incandescent bulb is about 12 lm/W, and a fluorescent lamp is 40-110 lm/W. The luminous efficiency of the white LEDs used in LED lighting was originally around 20 lm/W, but recently more energy-saving models with over 200 lm/W have been produced.

However, the above figures are the efficiency of the lamp part only and do not include the loss caused by the ballast required for fluorescent lamps and discharge lamps and the constant current drive circuit required for LEDs.

The luminous efficiency of LED lighting fixtures, which includes these losses, is rapidly improving compared to conventional lighting fixtures due to the development and improvement of various materials, including LEDs, and the competition among lighting manufacturers.

Points to consider when choosing a light bulb

LEDs are expensive to purchase, they are cheaper in electricity and last longer, so in the long run, they can be said to be cost-effective. However, since it is only for the long term, if you only use it for a short period of time and you want to prepare it cheaply, incandescent light bulbs may be good. Also, since LEDs and incandescent light bulbs differ in brightness and color, it is one way to use them according to the location.

Advantages of LEDs

LEDs have many advantages other than cost.

  • Environmentally Friendly

LED lighting does not use harmful substances such as mercury or lead. Also, as described in "Comparing electricity bills," you can reduce power consumption (= energy saving). In other words, the amount of CO2 emissions can be reduced, reducing the burden on the environment. In addition, it can be said that it is environmentally friendly in terms of waste reduction because it has a long life.

  • UV-free (pest free)

Fluorescent lights contain 1/1000th of the UV light of sunlight. There are two types of LEDs, one that emits almost no ultraviolet rays and one that contains ultraviolet rays.

In addition, pests have the characteristic of coming close to ultraviolet rays. One of the merits is that pests do not come by UV-free.

  • Good responsiveness

The flashing response speed of LEDs is said to be about 1000 times faster than that of incandescent bulbs. In other words, it will turn on instantly when it is energized, so it will have many advantages in places where there are many on and off, such as in the workplace.

Did you get the information you wanted? Currently, due to the increasing attention to the environment, the flow of lighting choices it is important that you get your LED Lighting from reliable suppliers.
