Several people love to detox their body post Diwali? But a few people know that digital detox is equally important as detoxification of the mind & body.

In our digital age, it's important to take some time away from technology to recharge and refocus. A digital detox can help you to reset your relationship with technology and find a healthy balance.

Several of our business women readers are trying hard to build their brand online. This blog will not only suggest ways for their digital detoxification, but preserve their creativity for more result oriented working.

In the age of digitalization, creativity and out-of-box thinking is important. Too much digital exposure takes a toll on our creativity, as a result our mind gets tired. Surprisingly, people have awareness about the effects of excess digital exposure, yet a few people are unaware of ways to detoxify.

Why is Digital Detox important?

Our lives today are entirely technology driven. Being online, connected, gives us pleasure and "All pleasurable behaviors are addictive and come at a cost," said David Greenfield, PhD founder of the Center for Internet and Technology Addiction.

As per the survey by the American Psychological Association, 2017, nearly one-fifth of people say technology is a source of stress, 43% of respondents checked their emails, messages, and social media constantly.

Hence for the wellbeing of one’s body and mind, there is an urgent need for digital detox.

What is Digital Detox?

As the name suggests, digital detox is the period of time during which a person refrains from using electronic devices such as smartphones or computers, with an aim of reducing stress and focusing on social interactions.

10 Effective tips that help in digital Detox

Here we list some useful tips that can be a good starting point to overcome digital addiction.

1. Take frequent breaks

It’s always healthy and advisable to take a break. Getting enough breaks during the day helps you to relax and give your eyes some rest. They help you to stay focused when you come back after a short while.

2. Mute all the unnecessary notifications

Of the many apps installed on our phone, only a few are truly essential. There is absolutely no hurry in watching all social media updates regularly. Instead you can fix a specific time to check all such feeds, messages. Muting such apps will help in that.

3. Spend more time in nature

As rightly said, nature has a cure to every problem. Few minutes in nature can do wonders to anyone. It relieves all stress, anxiety that accumulates within. If possible, engage more in activities like hiking, running, biking or adventure games during weekends with friends or family. Believe me, you won't feel any urge to check your phone.

4. Consume digital information mindfully

Social media should be taken mindfully. Hours of passive scrolling is a sheer wastage of your energy and time. So don't let them consume you.

5. Developing a habit of reading

There will never be a perfect time to start a new book or a magazine. So while working take a short break and start reading. It can be a novel, magazine or even a newspaper. This will be productive and educational.

6. Never begin or end day by checking the phone

Our brain reaches full recovery in 1-2 hours after getting out of bed. Similarly before going to bed, the brain needs time away from screens to delve into the sleeping mode because the blue light affects our sleeping behavior.. Scrolling on the phone or laptop before going to bed certenality will keep us awake longer and disturb the sleep patterns.

7. Using phone without purpose

Scrolling phones for no particular reason is very common. We often do this when we are working, attending a meeting, talking to someone. As per BankMyCell, a whooping 86% of smartphone users check their phones while they are in a conversation with friends or family. So, next time when you are planning to do the same, ask yourself "is this information really important "Does this message require an instant answer?", " If the answer is no, then you can put your phone away and enjoy what you are doing.

8. Always make schedule for yourself

One of the best ways to handle digital addiction is to make a schedule and stick with it. Plan things according to your priority. After you’re done with the priorities, you can allow yourself to get online.

9. Delete unnecessary apps

Lesser are the contents and apps, lesser will be the need to check them. So delete all those unnecessary apps.

10. Opting for a digital Sabbatical

A digital sabbatical is when you completely give up the internet for a longer period of time. This can range from days to more. Few even delete their accounts.

Detoxed mind leads to more productivity

Once you will be fully digital detoxed, you will find your creativity touching new heights.
