Install all types of equipment as per the manufacturer's instructions. Run the main filtration system and protein skimmer for constant water movement. Also, keep the lighting system off during the cycling period in order to reduce the growth of undesirable algae.

Step 2 - Saltwater and Water Testing:

There are two separate ways are there to get salt water. Either you can buy it from the local fish store or make your own saltwater at home. When you are a new aquarist it is better to purchase the water from the store. Also, you can make saltwater by mixing reverse osmosis de-ionized water and aquarium salt which you can purchase from the local fish store or online. Make sure to have a separate space for your saltwater and essential to have some extra saltwater in case of any emergencies. Water testing can be done at the time of maintenance. Without testing, it is difficult to know what is going on inside your reef tank. When you do water testing, you will get a chance to correct the imbalances in the water which also increases the chance of improving the water quality of your system.
