Antifreeze with ethylene glycol as coolant acidifies overtime and oxidizes when exposed to air and heat. Upon oxidation, glycol breaks down into organic acids such as glycolic, glyoxalic, formic, carbonic and oxalic acid. These are corrosive and chemically attack the materials of construction corroding, cracking the process pipelines.

Corrosion

Corrosion affects all metal parts with the corroded products circulating freely in the cooling system later causing erosional damage, and channel blocking. System Acidification

And, finally coolants acidify/ ferment because of the degradation of liquid catalyst and burning gasses entering the system, which can harm cooling framework.
