Types of Landscape Painting
Posted: Dec 23, 2014
Most photographs or paintings that are nature based or a direct impression of the nature around us is known as landscape painting or picture. This is generally known to be the most popular form of art and is a favorite one too. It is generally because most people can understand and relate to it as it represents aspects around us. Unlike large abstract paintings these are images of simple rivers, trees, mountains, flora and fauna and weather aspects that we see around us. There are different forms of landscape painting too. They are-
Abstract
Like other types of abstract art, abstract landscape paintings too heavily rely on the representation of the landscape than on the details of the landscape itself. For example, an abstract tree painting has more to do with how the particular tree is perceived and imagined by the artist and what he wants to convey via the tree than rather going into the actual details of the tree. A large abstract painting of landscape puts the actual landscape in the background and concentrates more on a single tree and its branches and heavily plays on it. This makes it an abstract tree painting of a landscape.
Representational
This is the simplest form that covers most beautiful landscape paintings. Here, there is no added filter, underlining or hidden meaning but the plain and simple representation of a landscape as seen by the artist. In most cases, if you take a look at the image captured by the artist you might be able to identify the place and location of the captured painting. If you are familiar with the place, you will be able to tell where the image was captured as it will be a direct replica of the landscape seen there.
Impressionistic
There is a certain element of unrealism in this impressionistic landscape painting. A real landscape image might be shown in an unreal light by either separating the foreground from the background or incorporating unnatural scenes into it. Saturated and bright colors might be used in places where it is usually soft. Foreground might be drastically cut off with bright images. A beautiful landscape painting is made as per the artist’s senses and sensibilities. It is quite similar to the large abstract paintings as there are elements of filter added to the painting by the artist. However, a certain amount of reality is maintained and is not so far from it as in abstract art.
