Reading is an essential part of our lives. It helps us improve our vocabulary and expand our knowledge on topics that interest us. In order to inspire kids to read more, you have to make sure they see that reading is enjoyable and worthwhile. It is a critical part of the holistic development for girls and boys.

One of the most effective ways to encourage kids to read more often is with the help of their parents. This is because children take their cues from what they see their parents doing and modelling, and can easily adopt the same behaviour when they want to. The parents could go as far as setting up a system where they read some books together daily, or even having family events so as to make sure that there's always something significant happening that involves reading aloud and sharing.

There are various ways that you can encourage your child to read more, including providing them with a variety of reading materials. Read on to find out some of the best ways to include ready organically in their daily routine.

Bring in variety

Give your child a variety of reading material not limited to study or story books. A wide variety of books that cover different topics will help your child develop an interest in reading. If your child loves to listen to music while they read, consider buying them an MP3 player so they can listen to music while they read.

If you have access to the library, take advantage of its resources. The library offers a variety of services such as book clubs, summer reading programs and book talks. These services can be fun and educational for children who want to learn more about their favourite authors and characters. Some of the best CBSE board girls’ school in Kolkata offer fully stacked libraries to ensure kids have access to knowledge from the world.

Use technology wisely when it comes to reading with your child. There are many online resources that can help you encourage your child's love of reading by providing them with interactive learning experiences you don't have to limit reading material to books

Encourage memorisation and recitation

Kids love to read, but they don't always read as much as they should. One way to encourage reading is by encouraging memorisation and recitation via reading tasks.

By having kids memorise a sentence, poem or story, you're encouraging them to use the memory skills that will help them later in school and beyond. This can be done with any type of reading task.

For example, instead of having your child read a book out loud, you could ask them to recite their favourite poem. Or you could ask them to recite a list of verbs in different tenses. Or have them write down as many of their favourite words as they can remember from a story or article they've read recently.

Use these tips for holistic development for girls and boys to make reading a core part of the learning journey of your kid.
