Mr. Alok Ranjan Jha was such one candidate who topped this Prestigious UPSC CSE Examination in his last attempt in the year 2002.

There are many Candidates who Qualify this Exam in their last attempt. Those who Qualify this Exam in their first attempt are fortunate. Mr. Akshay Agrawal is one of those successful candidates who Qualified this Prestigious Examination in his first attempt securing AIR 43 in the year 2018. Here in the below mentioned link Mr. Akshay says Self-Assessment is the key to success. Let us know what Mr. Akshay has to say about UPSC CSE preparation Strategy.

If there are 100 Successful Candidates in UPSC CSE then there would be 100 different strategies to combat this Exam. But some things would be common among all those strategies.

Mr. Agrawal Quoted one verse from Bhagwad Gita, which is in fact verse 5 from chapter 6. It is one of the most important verses of Gita.

उद्धरेदात्मनात्मानं नात्मानमवसादयेत् |

आत्मैव ह्यात्मनो बन्धुरात्मैव रिपुरात्मन: || 5||

In this verse Shri Krishna suggest Arjun that One must Put effort to uplift Oneself with the help of One’s Intellect. The soul will get elevated gradually if it follows Intellect. One must try to make one’s Intellect Pure and robust so that it can control its servant "The Mind "and eventually the senses. But because of Poor Intellect these Powerful sense Organs overpower our Mind and we don’t follow What Intellect says. Intellect will always advise for righteous things and not for those which are unrighteous in nature. At last Shree Krishna says if one cannot uplift oneself then at least one must not degrade himself.

Also, as Per one of the Important Upanishad i.e.; Kathopanishad there are two types of Pleasure – Preya (Short terms Pleasure) & Shreya (long term Pleasure). Sense organs are powerful and propel mind to engage in activities that provide instant gratification leading to experience Preya (short term Pleasure) but with right intellect one can control his Mind and strive for Shreya (long term Pleasure).

Majority of the Aspirants during their Preparation stage are engaged in achieving short term Pleasure and only few are striving hard for long term Pleasure. This is one of the reasons that very few People succeed and majority of them are in the list of unsuccessful Candidates.

One must compete with oneself and not with others. This will help in gradual improvement in one’s Personality.
