Liquid waste includes a wide range of waste types, including sanitary waste, storm sewage, and mixed sewage. Sanitary waste is typically generated at home or in the community and includes washwater from the kitchen, toilets, and laundry. During heavy rainstorms, surface runoff flows into municipal sewers, resulting in strom sewage. Mixed sewage is made up of two or more single sewage types and may contain industrial wastewater. Manufacturing facilities such as pharmaceuticals, textiles, and paper generate industrial wastewater. Liquid waste from manufacturing units has the potential to harm public health, plant and animal ecosystems, and the environment.

There is growing concern about the disposal of liquid waste, particularly grey water generated in households. The stagnant water provides an ideal environment for mosquito breeding and creates unsanitary conditions. It also causes serious problems by contaminating surface and ground water, particularly in high water table regimes. Waste management services are critical for environmental health protection because poorly drained wastewater causes diseases and other health issues for the people who live nearby.

Professional grease trap cleaning services

Summerland Environmental's professional waste management services provide liquid waste disposal solutions for all types of liquid waste generated by Australian households and businesses. Grease traps are used to prevent fats, oils, and greases (FOGs) from entering the main sewers, reducing the possibility of blockages. These can be made from various materials such as concrete, plastic, or mild steel. Baffles within grease traps work to slow the inflow of wastewater and allow it to be separated from the oil, food particles, and water. A trap on the outlet prevents FOGs from passing directly through the unit, which accumulates over time and must be cleaned.

Summerland Environmental's waste management services include grease trap processing, which involves filtering and screening waste in grease traps before pH adjustment and sludge/water separation using the dissolved air floatation process. This process's solids and sludge, which are mostly grease oil and fats, are dewatered and formed into a biosolid that can be used as a solid conditioning additive. The waste water is aerated until the biochemical oxygen demand, or BOD, is reduced to an acceptable level for a council's sewer.

Treating oily wastewater from the automotive industry

Oil and other petroleum products are captured in pits capturing water from commercial and industrial washdown activities before being allowed to enter the sewer system. To prevent contaminants from entering the sewer system, these pits must be pumped at regular intervals by the liquid waste disposal service. Summerland Environmental transports this water to its Oily Waters Processing Plant for processing via its liquid waste disposal service. In addition, the company collects used sump oil from engines and other equipment, refines, and reuses it for further lubrication or as fuel. The company's waste management services collect and process oily waste from the automotive industry, which includes waste fuel and degreasers, as well as vehicle wash sites.

Experienced workforce to safely handle liquid chemical waste

The filtration method is used by the company's liquid waste disposal service to process wastewater. The floating oil and fuel are then removed from the liquid's surface before rejoining the energy stream. Before precipitation, the remaining water is pH adjusted to remove all suspended matter. After two stages of processing, the clear water is discharged to the sewer and monitored by the council. The waste management services offered by the company also include specialised solutions for oil recycling, waste oil collection, liquid waste disposal, and oil water removal. The company's workforce is highly qualified and experienced in handling various types of chemical wastes such as solvents, thinners, xylenes, alcohols, and so on.

Summerland Environmental provides liquid waste disposal and waste management services in the council areas of Lismore, Ballina, Byron, Kyogle, and Richmond Valley.
