What is the full name of Ca3N2?

Calcium nitride is a solid brown nitride powder, which is an inorganic compound composed of calcium and nitrogen. The chemical formula of calcium nitride is Ca3N2. It has many isomorphic forms, α- Calcium nitride is more common. Calcium nitride powder has the characteristics of high purity and uniform particle size distribution. Calcium nitride is a reddish brown crystalline solid composed of calcium and nitrogen.

Preparation of calcium nitride Ca3N2 powder

When calcium burns in air, Ca3N2 forms together with the oxide CaO. The distilled fibrous metal calcium is heated to 450 ℃ in purified nitrogen flow, and the metal calcium is nitrided into calcium nitride 3~4 hours later.

According to different preparation temperatures, the obtained calcium nitride is black at 350 ℃, milky white at 350~1150 ℃, and golden yellow at 1150 ℃ and above. The formed calcium nitride is easy to identify because it can react with water or water to produce calcium hydroxide and ammonia.

Physicochemical Properties of Ca3N2 Powder

Calcium nitride is a brown crystal, an ionic compound, with a density of 2.63 g/cm3 and a melting point of 1195 ℃. Its CAS number is 12013-82-0, and its molar mass is 148.248 g · mol − 1. Under different conditions, it is black, golden yellow or milky white hexagonal crystal. Its crystal structure is cubic. α- Calcium nitride will be converted to β- Calcium Nitride. α- Calcium nitride has a bismuth resistant structure similar to MnO, but its ion position is opposite. Is Ca3N2 ionic or covalent? Ionic bond: calcium nitride (Ca3N2).

Calcium nitride decomposes to form calcium hydroxide, which releases ammonia in the presence of water. It is soluble in dilute acid and decomposes in anhydrous alcohol. It can also react with hydrogen to generate calcium hydride and calcium amide.

Use of Ca3N2 powder

Calcium nitride is an important chemical reagent and has important applications in chemical industry. So, what is calcium nitride used for? Due to their chemical inertness and high temperature resistance, interstitial nitrides are useful in some high temperature applications, including as crucibles and high temperature reaction vessels. Active nitrogen ions can be obtained by using calcium nitride. In addition, at a temperature above 350 ℃, calcium nitride can be heated with hydrogen to prepare calcium hydride.
