Oil problems have become common in most of the cars; even Audi is also not an exception. One of the common oil problems Audi owners’ faces is the car running out of oil. This can be an irritating issue as you will have to put oil in your car frequently to make the car work efficiently. In this article, you will know about the reasons for which your Audi runs out of oil.

The engine oil loss in the car

Engine oil is one of the most important components of a healthy engine. It is a substance that lubricates most of the engine parts to make them work efficiently. Oil makes the engine run smoothly. Your engine needs certain amount of oil to work normally. Newly manufactured vehicles usually consume much less oil than older cars. Modern engines just use half of the quart of oil when the car runs 5000 miles.

But lack of maintenance cause various oil problems. There are certain damages of some parts of engine which can make the engine to demand more oil than usual. You will have to top off the engine oil frequently to make your car run properly. So better fix the issue soon to prevent wastage of oil and money too.

Signs that the engine is losing oil

l Oil light is getting on repeatedly

l Oil pressure warning

l Unusual grinding noise from engine.

What causes your Audi loosing oil?

There can be many reasons for Audi loosing oil more. Even if the oil is not leaking, the loss of oil can occur by burning of oil in combustion chamber due to some wear and tear of some components and internal leakage. Here are some common causes.

Oil leakage

Damage of valve cover gaskets allows the oil to leak and the oil amount in engine is reduced.

Valve seals are worn out

Valve seals usually carry out the work of regulation of consumption of oil. The worn out seals cause leakage oil into engine cylinders.

Piston rings are worn out

The piston rings form seals prevent the combustion gases from escaping and maintains the compression in engine. When the piston rings deteriorate then the seal becomes of no use. This allows the oil to enter into combustion chamber through them. The oil burns and the oil level drops.

PCV valve is damaged

Elimination of harmful gasses from the engine combustion is done by PCV valve. If the PCV valve is worn out, it makes the oil getting sucked through air intake to the combustion chamber.

The oil is old or of wrong type

If the oil you are using is old and used or of wrong type for your engine, then your engine may gradually get damaged. Such oils fail to lubricate the engine. The engine may begin to overheat and burn the oil.

Oil pressure is high

If the oil pressure is high then the flow of oil into the engine will be much more than required this cause wastage of oil. The oil pressure rises due to faulty settings in the computer of the car.

The loosened drain plug

If the drain plug of the oil pan is loosened, then it can cause the engine oil to flow out while you drive.

If you find the signs that your car is running out of oil repeatedly, you have to call a mechanic or schedule a service of engine and fuel system. Before taking to service, you can check the oil and coolant levels in your engine system. The diagnosis of such issue ranges from easy fixes like damaged gaskets to most costly fixes like replacement of engine.

Here are some tips to fix the issues

a. You can replace the crankcase and update the engine management software. It can correct the oil pressure and some other issues.

b. If there is no leakage from gaskets or drain plug, then replacing, piston rings, pistons, PCV valve and con rods can fix the issue.

c. If any of the replacement doesn’t work, then the only thing you can do to run the car is to replace the engine. Engine replacement can ultimately fix the issue.

For major replacements like pistons, con rods, better you contact Audi service centers.

Conclusion

So, whenever you change or top off the oil, always use the oils that are recommended for your car by the manufacturer. Wrong oil type can create some problems in your engine and may gradually damage the engine system. Good engine maintenance prevents most of these problems and maintenance includes oil change at regular intervals.
