Engine remapping or engine tuning is the most effective and efficient way of improving the performance and fuel efficiency of a vehicle.

The conventional way of servicing a vehicle is no longer applicable for modern vehicles. Today, most modern cars are equipped with a small computer that is called the ECU. The ECU components and parameters can be adjusted or modified as per the driving requirements of the car owners and this is what is known as ECU tuning or engine tuning. But now you may wonder why you should get your car remapped or tuned up or why remapping or tuning is important for your car. Well, it is important for every vehicle today and here's why it is important for every car nowadays.

Even if you are having an old car model with an old ignition system or having the new system only, it is important to have a proper car tube up whenever you think your car needs it. If you do not go for a regular car tune up, the chances of risk factors like sudden car breakdown, excessive fuel consumption, etc., will keep increasing day by day and your vehicle will start performing lower than before. A well-tuned car will definitely run more smoothly ensuring a pleasurable and more comfortable driving experience. Tuned vehicles also consume less fuel to cover more distance that is tuning results in fuel efficiency or fuel economy and improves the overall vehicle performance and driveability. However, the time gap varies between the remaps so make sure to check your manufacturer's manual for the specific settings and tuning requirements.

Why is engine tuning or car tuning important?

  • Car tune-up is important because it improves the overall engine performance by up to 35 percent.
  • It costs much less than repairs.
  • Car tuning can serve as a complete makeover for your vehicle.
  • It increases the car's longevity, durability, and efficiency.

What does car tune-ups entail?

Previously, remapping or tuning or chipping involves the changing of the wires and spark plugs, and the distributor rotor and the ignition coil. The ignition timing also gets fine tuned to get back to the factory spec. Also, the air filter is also likely to be swapped out for the new one.

However, most of these things have changed nowadays and most modern cars no longer use distributors, instead they use spark plugs that are often powered by their own coils, and the fuel timings, and ignition timings of the engine are computer controlled now. Many modern fuel and ignition system components are designed to last for the lifetime of the car.

However, this does not mean that older car models cannot be tuned up. There are different versions of tuning. For example, there are many automakers who suggest the replacement of the spark plugs at their 100,000 miles mark. And most automakers suggest specific replacement intervals or gaps for the air filters. These gaps may range from 15,000 to 30,000 miles in almost all cases.

When any modern car model is taken for a tune-up, tuners or remappers will, along with the replacement of the air filter and spark plugs, check for other problems in the vehicle's emission system and fuel system, especially, the electronic sensors which control the emission system.

So, what do you think now, should you take your car for a proper and custom tune-up?

Though normal car servicing is also there and you can definitely go for it, but your car needs proper tune-ups as well now to run with more efficiency and smoothness and to show better performance on the roads. A standard tune-up is essential for every vehicle. With proper remaps, you can be sure of a safer and more comfortable driving experience. If you do not invest in tune-ups then it may increase risk factors like sudden car breakdown, hefty repair bills on things like damaged fuel pump, and other parts of the vehicle.

Whether you own a latest model of a car or have any of the older car models, you should go for car tune-ups frequently.
