protective packaging

On October 27 of this year, Storopack, a company specializing in protective packaging, signed an agreement for the acquisition of 74.9% of the shares of OPITZ Packaging Systems GmbH (OPITZ). OPITZ, based in Düderode, Lower Saxony and Storopack joined forces in January 2019 to achieve automated and efficient processes in the field of packaging logistics.

OPITZ has many years of experience in custom mechanical engineering and specializes in manufacturing state-of-the-art automation solutions for packaging systems. OPITZ's expertise in packaging process automation is a perfect match for Storopack's experience and expertise in the area of protective packaging solutions. Together, the product portfolios of the two companies cover all aspects of packaging process automation.

The full spectrum of OPITZ services will now be available to Storopack customers. "This investment is an important step in increasing the productivity of our customers' protective packaging processes, " explains Hermann Reichenecker, Chairman of the Board of management of Storopack. In particular, the OPITZ portfolio consists of box erectors, volume reducers, cardboard box sealers using paper or self-adhesive tape, palletizers and systems for automation of the entire packaging process. Solutions involving robots that accurately position key Storopack products such as the AIRplus ® air cushions and PAPERplus ® paper cushions are currently in the development phase. "During the joint partnership it has already become clear that the two companies share many of the same values and have a common understanding regarding high quality standards and a strong customer focus. This represents an ideal basis for moving forward, " adds Hermann Reichenecker.

The company will retain the name OPITZ Packaging Systems GmbH, with the Opitz family on board with a 25.1 percent stake. As CEO, Günther Opitz and his son Tim Opitz will remain responsible for the business operations of the family company. To meet the strong increase in demand for OPITZ products and solutions, there are also plans to build a new plant in Northeim, not far from Düderode.

Innovative design and easy to use

Thanks to the newly developed format, PAPERbubble ® paper sheets are especially suitable for shipping small and sensitive products such as cosmetics and electronic components, as well as e-commerce products in general. The pre-produced paper sheets are easy to use thanks to the perforation in the center and offer flexibility for optimal protection of the shipped products. This allows the Packer to choose the right amount of packaging, reducing waste. Paper represents a simple solution for wrapping and padding the packaged products and filling voids in the box. PAPERbubble ® is available in specially designed boxes with 300 sheets. The box developed for PAPERbubble ® allows the simple and ergonomic removal of the paper beads, directly at the packaging station. PAPERbubble ® does not require a machine system, which means it can be ideally integrated into the existing distribution line, with minimal investment.

With paper sheets Storopack customers can reliably protect their products and also display them in a very elegant, impressive and unique format. PAPERbubble ® sheets provide a positive and sustainable unpacking experience to end customers.
