Hot Liquor Drink Ideas

1. Spiced Apple Hot Toddy

In the midst of fall, what could be more appropriate hot liquor drink than a spiced apple hot toddy? Moreover, hot toddies are very easy to make. Here's how to make a hot liquor drink using:

  • 2.5 cups light apple cider
  • A few cinnamon sticks
  • A pinch or two of cloves
  • 3.5 tablespoons of honey (preferably light honey)
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup plus 3 tablespoons of Woodford Reserve bourbon

Simply heat up all the ingredients, except the bourbon and lemon juice. When it reaches to boiling point, remove from the heat and strain out the spices. Put in your bourbon and lemon juice and garnish with a few apple slices.

All you need now is a crackling fire or a bracing fall afternoon on which to sip this zingy yet hot smooth drink.

2. Tanteo Jalapeno Apple Cider Margarita

Enjoy an apple cider margarita with a kick of pepper and apple cider if you want to add a little kick to your cold-weather cocktail. This hot and spicy margarita calls for the following ingredients for two servings:

  • 8 oz. apple cider
  • 3 oz. Tante Jalapeno Tequila
  • 2 oz. fresh orange juice
  • 1 oz. freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1.5 oz. agave nectar

Simply in a pre-warmed hot toddy glass, combine the apple cider with the other ingredients. Add some cinnamon and nutmeg to the mix to finish it off.

3. Sonoma Maple and Mint Toddy

Would you like a warm, yet refreshing hot toddy? As one of our favorite hot tea liquor drinks, this maple and mint toddy is both relaxing and invigorating. Here are the ingredients you'll need:

  • 1.5 oz. Sonoma bourbon
  • 0.5 oz. maple syrup
  • 0.5 oz. fresh lemon juice
  • 3 oz. mint tea

Brew a cup of mint tea to get started. Add bourbon, maple syrup and lemon juice, in a toddy glass and add a wedge of lemon for garnish.

4. Earl Grey Hot Buttered Rum

From colonial times, hot buttered rum has been a popular hot alcohol drink. This Earl Grey variation is a great way to add a twist to an old favorite. You will need the following ingredients to make one serving:

  • 4 oz. steeped Earl Grey tea
  • 2 tablespoons of a dark rum, such as Pappa's Pillar
  • 2 teaspoons of brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of softened, unsalted butter
  • 1 dash of ground cinnamon
  • 1 dash of ground allspice
  • 1 dash of ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract

Steep the Early Grey tea to the strength you desire. In a hot toddy glass or Irish coffee glass, combine butter, spices, sugar, and vanilla essence. Add your rum, then your Earl Grey tea. Mix well.

5. Ancho Reyes Ancho Chile Hot Chocolate

This recipe is for you if you're more of a chocolate fan than a pumpkin lover. One of the few hot liquor drink recipes that uses made-from-scratch hot cocoa is the Ancho Reyes Ancho Chile hot chocolate recipe. The mild chili pairs well with the hot chocolate, and the fruity tamarind and spice notes add an extra layer of flavor. Here are the ingredients you'll need to make hot chocolate:

  • 100% cacao powder
  • Turbinado sugar
  • Hot water

Mix cacao and sugar in a ratio of 1:3/4. As an example, you will need 3/4 cup sugar for 1 cup cacao. Stir in hot water slowly until you reach a thick, liquid consistency. You will need 4 oz of this chocolate mix to make two servings of Ancho Reyes hot chocolate. If you have extra, you can keep it in the refrigerator for later use.

Each serving requires 4 ounces of half-and-half and 1.25 ounces of Ancho Reyes Ancho Chile in addition to the hot chocolate mix.

Prepare spiked hot chocolate by heating half-and-half until almost simmering in a saucepan. Pour 4 ounces of chocolate mix into coffee cups, followed by Ancho Reyes Ancho Chile. To garnish, sprinkle some orange zest and cinnamon on top, or use a cinnamon stick.

6. St-Germain Chocolate Epice

Not in the mood to make hot cocoa from scratch? Here's a recipe for St-Germain Chocolate Epice. It couldn't be easier to make this boozy hot chocolate, which calls for tequila and St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur. Here are the ingredients for two servings of this cozy, hot, liquor drink:

  • 2 oz. Silver Tequila
  • 1 oz. St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur
  • 8 oz. instant hot chocolate of your choice

According to the packet instructions, heat the instant hot chocolate. Pour the tequila and elderflower liqueur into mugs, and top with marshmallows.

7. Kahlua Hot Chocolate

This is another simple (but still spiked) hot chocolate recipe with a coffee kick. You will need the following ingredients to prepare this classic Kahlua hot chocolate for two servings:

  • 2 cups of hot chocolate
  • 1 oz. Kahlua coffee liqueur
  • 1 pinch of cinnamon
  • 1 pinch of nutmeg

You just have to add your Kahlua and spices to two steaming cups of hot chocolate and you're good to go. To make this grownup version of hot cocoa even more decadent, you can pile on some marshmallows, you can add some whipped cream, and you can drizzle it with some salted caramel and chocolate syrup if you are looking for more decadence.
