This means for cooling down the engine you have to turn it off for at least 15 minutes. Moreover, sitting for at least 15 minutes in the car can allow the engine, hood, and the leaking coolant to cool down.
Add coolant
Once the engine hood is cooling down, put on gloves and open it for determining the radiator cap. For easy access to the cooling system parts, you can go through your owner's manual. Then use a towel to hold the cap and push down and loosen it slowly for releasing the pressure which is built up from the heat generated by the engine.
At the end of the phase, open the radiator cap and add coolant until it reaches the full line. Then replace the radiator cap and turn on the engine. In this way, the temperature gauge becomes normal and makes the car safe to drive to the nearest auto repair shop.
Get it checked out
In the first place, if the overheating problems are not resolved with added coolant, then drive it to your nearest auto repair center by driving the car slowly to inspect the coolant system and diagnose the temperature gauge.
