Many riders have ended their day with a big smile on their face after they finished one of the state’s great trails. Maybe they feel like a kid again, or maybe they feel like king of the mountain. Riders know that Virginia is a shining star on when it comes to mountain biking. With trails of every kind, visitors and residents in the commonwealth are never far from a great ride.

All across the Virginia you can find lots of well-designed trails with everything from twisty, technical single track, manmade features, big drops, double track, rail trails, and pump tracks.Many trails come with the IMBA stamp of approval for trail design, meaning that you know you will have a quality ride experience on sustainably designed trails. Conscious trail designs mean you, the rider have a better experience and can enjoy the trails for years to come.

With Virginia mountain bike trails dotting the state from mountains to seashore, there are lots of fat tire and knobby tire riding options. Whether you single speed, ride super fat tires, like suspension, or keep it simple on a rigid frame, you are never far from a place to hit the trail. Whether you are looking for technical climbing to rolling gradual trails you should be able to easily find something that suits your preferences.

If you have young families there are some excellent bike trails to get them started on their riding experiences. Many families enjoy the marked trails found one of Virginia’sState and Regional parks. Pocahontas State Park is one such park, located in the Richmond region it offers a nice selection of marked trails and has been designated with a national IMBA Ride Center title.If you are into racing, then there are plenty of options too. Richmond is a hub of mountain bike racing at places like the James River Trails systems, and at nearby Pocahontas State Park. Each offer multiple races each year. In the Blue Ridge Mountains look for events such as Middle Mountain Momma and the Shenandoah 100 which offer very challenging climbing and technical descents.

Virginia mountain bike trails is also home to a number of mountain biking clubs; most offering trail advice or regular rides. You can also find skills clinics, kids events, trail-building classes, and other programs offered through parks or clubs.
