What we will be wearing in 2015
Posted: Jan 05, 2015
Stand by for new trends, such as supersized jewellery, knee-high sandals and fashion's take on the builder's belt, that are guaranteed to give your wardrobe the new year overhaul it needs.
Knee-high sandals
Think Grecian goddess meets Jackie O, and next year's knee-high sandals make perfect sense. Clare Waight Keller at Chloe chose fresh shades of tangerine, aqua, blood orange and nude for hers, adding a slight wedge for instantly longer legs. Perfectly pretty teamed with raw denim, floaty silk chiffon, crisp white broderie anglais and soft buttery suede, they are super-wearable and a winning sandal option come summer 2015-16.

Dr Marten's iconic chunky, clunky black lace-up has seen more comebacks than Madonna, and been worn by every major youth subculture in history, from skins, punks, goth and grunge, to emo and Britpop. Thanks to Phoebe Philo at Celine, they're hot again and more fashionable than ever. In true Doc Marten style, wear them as you wish, scuffed and worn down, or spit-spot and shiny as new.
Padlocks
Ditch your pearls girls; heavy metal is back in vogue. Tiffany & Co, Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Moschino ditched this year's ladylike pearls, and opted for padlocks for 2015. Wear big and bold, or layer several smaller versions for a stylish and modern take on Mr T-chic.
Supersize me
2014 was the year of dainty jewellery – tiny ear cuffs, petite pendants on web-like chains and delicate rings worn on every finger. Now designers such as Stella McCartney and Phoebe Philo are supersizing their accessory lines, opting for big bangles, oversized neckpieces and chunky ear cuffs, making them the perfect partner for next spring's voluminous silhouettes.
Brown is the new black
Thanks to Pantone, the rich, delicious and universally flattering shade of marsala is the colour for 2015. Prepare to dip your wardrobe in earthy tones of latte, coffee, chocolate, oak and camel, and pair back with shades of blue, green, grey and yellow, or nutty neutrals like taupe and beige.
Tulle
Channel your inner-ballerina and add a touch of frou-frou to your new year style repertoire. Fairy floss-spun cocktail dresses, tutu skirts, and tulle waist ties and ruffles are haute, and look sharpest when teamed with a touch of tailoring.
Three-dimensional texture
Ruffles and florals take on a more futurist vibe, with designers suchas Haider Ackermann and Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel transforming them into high definition, three-dimensional texture. So as not to look overwhelmed by them, wear with care, teaming them only with simply styled separates.
Bondage
Bondage is back and no fiercer than at the house of Givenchy, where black leather, grommeted lacings, thigh high boots, leather lattice and whipstitching dominated. Only truly badass fashionistas need apply.
Wide-legged pants
The wide-legged pant sits just so, skimming the thigh and falling into a puddle at the feet. While these pants have super leg-lengthening powers and are comfy-to-boot, they only work on the naturally tall and thin-pinned, so be sure to always wear with heels or prepare to look swamped.
The builder's belt
A hands-free handbag? Perhaps thanks to Sophia Webster's clever take on the multi-purpose and very versatile builder's belt. Not to be mistaken with 2014's bum bag, this handy hip candy has a pocket for all your essentials. Wear it low on the hip so as not to be confused for an American tourist.
